NEWSLETTER - 17 FEBRUARY 2022
Welcome to our February Newsletter. This month we have more funding opportunities and advice. VCS News, Events, Training, Health & Wellbeing and more...

Call out! Your borough needs you!
As part of the ongoing efforts to encourage residents in Islington to take up the Covid-19 vaccine, several VCS organisations are working together, with funding support from Islington Council and the NHS, on efforts to reach the communities of low vaccinate uptake. We are devising leaflets, WhatsApp and other social media messaging, including translations into the five most spoken languages spoken in the borough, as well as English.

Volunteer Centre Islington:
The Camden & Islington Volunteering Fair
The fair held on the 8 February was well attended with 11 organisations offering volunteering opportunities. “Marta Aparicio, Volunteer Service Manager at Volunteer Centre Islington, said that the online volunteering fair was a great opportunity for residents interested in volunteering to be able to speak directly to the organisations.” Due to the high demand from organisations we are now planning a new fair at the beginning of April - we will keep you updated. See the organisations that participated in the fair here
If you are a non-profit that wants to recruit volunteers in Islington at the next fair, then send an email to marta.aparicio@vai.org.uk

Trustees and committee members are needed in Islington organisations:

Trustees meet for a maximum of two hours on the first Wednesday of alternate months. There is a really useful one hour zoom session for anyone who is interested in becoming a trustee – it is repeated every month. View website
  • Islington schools need governors and trustees
Schools and academies are looking for volunteers with an interest in education, relevant skills, a willingness to learn and a passion to facilitate school improvement.
We are encouraging Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities to step forward as they are currently underrepresented on some governing boards.
There will be a one hour Governance Information Session on Zoom. Dates: Wednesday 23 February, 6-7pm or Wednesday 2 March 2022, 12 noon to 1pm  For more info & book here
  • Cloudesley is an Islington-based charity which makes grants to local people, organisations and churches. They are looking for people with an Islington connection to become committee members to join either their Grants Committee or their Finance and Endowment Committee. No previous grant-making, committee or charity experience is needed.  Applications from people who are disabled, have a long-term health condition, are from a Black and minority ethnic community or/and are under 35 are particularly welcome. Further info and how to apply here.
  • The Black Women’s Link Project supports women who are lonely and don’t feel they have a voice. They connect women together to share ideas, experiences, and stories. This is done by providing a safe space for them to express concerns. Through talking and listening to the group, can address and resolve unhelpful patterns of behaviour and thinking, relieve isolation, increase self-esteem and improve self-awareness. They are currently looking for a Chairperson, a Treasurer and a Trustee to be part of their board.
