Lids, Lugs and Handles Visiting Artist Pottery Workshop

Dates: Saturday March 5th and Sunday March 6th (2 days)
Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. both days
Venue: In Pottery Studio at the Guild (downstairs)
Fees: $160.00 + Guild membership

Prerequisites: Open to current/former Open Studio and Full-time Members of the Pottery Studio at the Guild, who have completed at least Wheel 1 or an approved equivalent.

This two-day workshop tackles a common weak points in many potter’s work – details like lids, lugs and handles.

In this two-day workshop Victoria BC Pottery Gordon Reisig and his assistant Janet Bartz will help participants learn how to make lids that fit, explore different handle variations and make creative bottoms/feet for your pieces.

On Saturday Gord demos throwing forms and matching lids: Types of lids, throwing off the hump, splitting lip, and knobs and spouts. Participants practice throwing different forms and their lids while Gord and Janet circulate to help out.

On Sunday Gord demos pulling, extruding, cutting handles and lugs, including making custom keys for cutting handles. Gord demos trimming/fitting lids, adding knobs. Gord demos attaching handles/lugs.

Participants trim pots and lids made on Saturday, fit lids, make handles/lugs. Participants add handles and/or lugs to their pots while Gord and Janet circulate to help out. If time permits, Gord will take requests for throwing demos.
