April 15: Intro Beekeeping Class
April 22: Hive Inspection
April 29: Hive Inspection
May 6: Hive Inspection

Meet the Team: Hannah Fallon

Hannah is a senior biology major from Ringgold, Georgia. She is particularly passionate about pollinator habitats and is an expert on native plants!  She helped plant a pollinator garden at the Coretta Scott King Young Women's Leadership Academy and works part time at Beech Hollow Wildflower Farm, a local native plant nursery.

Swarm Patrol Volunteers Needed

Spring is rapidly approaching which means honey bees are ready to reproduce!  When a colony reproduces about half the bees leave the hive with the old queen and settle temporarily on a branch or other structure while they search for a new home.  This group of bees is called a swarm.
We need volunteers to monitor the areas around our bee hives each day in the spring so we can quickly capture and re-hive any swarms.  Sign up here to volunteer and get a free T shirt!

Plant a flower, save a bee

One of the best things you can do for bees is plant flowers, flowering trees, and flowering shrubs.  The Selecting Plants for Pollinators guide from the Pollinator Partnership has many good suggestions for plants that thrive in Metro Atlanta and support pollinators.

Student Club Update

The Georgia Tech Student Beekeeping Club has several activities planned for the semester including hive inspections, participation in the Atlanta Science Festival, and maybe even a trip to the University of Florida bee lab over spring break.  For more information contact  Nathan Bowman (nbowman9@gatech.edu)
