We want to let you know about the opportunities that God has given us so we can continue helping the people of PNG.
Even thou the internet talks about a 99.2% of Christianity in PNG, the truth is different, because going to church doesn't make a person christian and also "by their fruit you will recognize them" (Matt 7.16). As many other countries, this country needs to know Jesus in a closer way so their lives can change. But the difference here is that they don't have the same options and opportunities.
One limitation they have is that they don't know how to read and write, they know that God speaks in his own language but they don't know how to find the promises, instructions and principles.
The questions that is burning my heart is: How this people can get closer to God if they don't have a Bible in their language or don't know how to read it?!
Last December we invited Steven and his family (7 kids) among other friends to come to our house. We cook for them and show them the Nativity movie. Among our conversations I realise that Steven and her wife don't know how to read, then I ask Abu (his wife) if she wanted to learn. Her eyes were wide open and she said "Yes, but I don't have money". Steven sells vegetables at the market to be able to pay for four of their children education and that is not enough to cover education for the parents.
The story of Steven and Abu is the same for many man and women in this valley.
Then I found literacy materials in Tok Pisin and start teaching three women from their village, so that one day, they can read the Bible in their own language, Tairora.
Many women wanted to be part of the group but that requires more materials and more helping teachers and I can only help like three at a time.
I taught Isaí to read and write when he was 4 years old, he was ready because all the stimulation he received since baby but working with this women is more difficult since their educational level is very limited.
Teaching to read and write in another language is not easy, then I ask for your prayers so God can give me wisdom to find the best strategies to teach them.
Also that God helping Abu, Au and Gimane with their understanding.
Pray that God help me to administer my time with Isaí's homeschool, the work in the literacy office, this literacy course and with two ladies that I read the Bible once a week.
