The Sixth Sunday after the

Epiphany

Blessings and Woes

This Sunday, the Gospel of Luke exposes us to some very strong language of contrast. As part of his famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus introduces his followers to a teaching that would later become known as the "Beatitudes".  This collection of blessings and woes speak of both the hopes and warnings that accompany the fleeting natures of poverty and wealth. This Sunday we will explore some of the implications of heeding Jesus blessings and woes in our community's own time and place.

Return to In-Person Worship
Our parish's much anticipated return to in-person worship in the church building has now begun. While everyone is welcome to attend, we require that those age twelve and over provide proof of vaccination before entering the church. Congregational singing is not yet permitted and masks must be worn inside the church building.

Vestry Meeting
The annual meeting of vestry will take place on Sunday February 27 at 1 pm via zoom. This online meeting will offer a chance to receive reports from the year that just ended, approve the budget for 2022, and select members of the parish to serve in leadership roles. All members of the parish are encouraged to attend. A casual pre-vestry meeting will take place via zoom on Sunday February 20 at 1 pm. Reports will need to be received by the church office as soon as possible and no later than February 16.

Thank you all for the many gifts you offer in support of our parish's ministry!

World Day of Prayer

World Day of Prayer 2022 is now being planned for Deep River and all women; young, old and in-between are invited to participate in this year's service.

The theme is: I Know the Plans I Have for You (Jeremiah 29:11) and the women of England, Wales and Northern Ireland have prepared the service. Deep River’s service will take place on Friday March 4, 11:00 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

Please contact Catherine Kerr (613-635-1760 or mck5@sympatico.ca) for more information on how you can help.

At this time masks are required to enter the church and physical distancing is being observed.

The invitation is for everyone - men, women, and children to come and pray with us.

Snow Labyrinth

The large Chartres style labryinth carved out of the deep snow at the northwest end of the St. Barnabas churchyard is available for use by anyone who would appreciate the chance to pray or meditate outdoors. A weekly walking of the labryinth will take place following the weekly 10 AM Sunday worship service. Please feel free to walk the labyrinth any time, according to your own pace and schedule.

Milk Bags Needed

We’re still collecting milk bags to be made into floor mats. As you can see the crate is filling up and there is a trip planned to take the bags to Pembroke in late February. Feel free to drop off the clean, flat bags to 6 Chadwick Drive in Deep River any time. Just place the bags in the bin under the blue coffee table.

YouTube Videos and Radio Broadcast

St. Barnabas is now ready to begin holding worship services in the church building again. Sunday worship services can be attended in-person and can also be accessed on the parish YouTube channel. Please CLICK HERE to worship from home. Video recordings are uploaded shortly after services take place and remain on the YouTube channel afterward. People in the immediate vicinity of the church can also listen to the service on Sundays at 10 AM by radio at 107.3 FM.

Diocesan COVID-19 Plan

St. Barnabas follows all recommendations and requirements of both public health and diocesan church authorities. We are currently in the the "yellow" stage of the Diocese of Ottawa's COVID-19 plan: In This Together.
