February 1st Kicked Off Black History Month

Over the next month, students and staff will engage in a Black Lives Matter At School unit of study. This serves as an important opportunity for us to enact our racial equity work within our learning spaces, center Black lives and contributions in our teaching and learning, and prepare students to contribute positively to a global and diverse society. To provide flexibility across classrooms, the timing of lessons may vary slightly, yet all students will engage in the learning by the end of February.

This is the fourth year the District will participate in lessons for learning and activities related to Black Lives Matter at School. Family resources on the D65 website are available to support learning and conversations with children at home.

Save the Date: Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Training

All caregivers in Evanston/Skokie School District 65 are invited to this introductory EDI training, which will share fundamental frameworks needed to start navigating EDI in our community.

KINGSLEY ESCCA

ESCCA is an all-volunteer organization that makes clothing available to all K-8th grade children of Evanston/Skokie District 65 Schools.  Each year it provides clothing and shoes/boots to 650-700 children.  Every child receives a full wardrobe of clothing, mostly gently-used items, and also new gym shoes, boots, underwear and jeans.

A parent or guardian may request ESCCA services for a District 65 child by contacting his or her school health clerk, Juanita Barrett (barrettj2@district65.net or 847-859-8402), social worker, Clarissa Rosenberg (rosenbergc@district65.net or 847-859-8408) or school principal, David Davis (davisda@district65.net or 847-859-8401).

For more information on ESCCA, visit their website. For information on what can be donated, click here. Please donate if you can. There is a bin located in the nurse’s office. For more information, please contact fallon.stefani@gmail.com.

District 65's Digital Backpack

Designed by Northwestern's Digital Youth Network, the backpack is a free site screened and maintained by District 65 to share our community's youth and family events and programs. The more the community uses the site, the more organizations will regularly take advantage of this resource for the benefit of us all.

To visit the Digital Backpack, click here

The backpack has been upgraded this year to provide easier-to-read program tiles and search functionality by age range and type of program.  Organizations can post to the Backpack through a simple upload process linked here.
