Worcester Environmental Group Outdoor Volunteer Events Coming Up!

Hi <<First Name>>

We have two wonderful opportunities in the last two weeks of February to help our community flourish in a thriving natural environment over the next two weeks.

We will be making wildlife log piles from hazel that we will be coppicing here along part of the proposed Wild about Worcester Way.

Meet in Warndon Woods Local Nature Reserve at the east end of Plantation Drive. Please book for:

Tuesday 15th February from 10am to 1pm. Book here.
Sunday 27th February from 10am to 1pm. Book here.

Coppicing hazel has so many benefits including

  • Helps ground layer plants such as bluebells, wood anemone and many others to flourish because more light is let in.

  • More butterfly and pollinator diversity due to a richer variety of ground layer plants.

  • More insects for birds bats and other mammals to feed on.

  • Extends the life of the hazel for up to 800 years, instead of around 80 years if left uncoppiced.

  • A more varied habitat.

  • In this project we will use the offcuts to create wildlife log piles. These will provide homes for mosses, fungi, a wide range of invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles and birds that will prey on the insect residents.

Really looking forward to seeing you.
