Planning for SMSC and PSHE for Summer 2022?
This term we continue to enjoy bringing you a wide range of FREE resources to support SMSC education for many important dates and holidays celebrated in the Summer 2022 term. In this edition we have underlined the significance of raising awareness for different communities, teaching others how to create a more accepting, loving and inclusive world. Deaf Awareness week commences on May 2nd which provides an opportunity for pupils to learn how to be more deaf aware, looking at how they could begin communicating with those in the deaf community around them. Christian Aid Week, starting on the 15th May, is all about promoting awareness for those living in hardship throughout the world, students can think about how they can raise money and/or awareness for those less fortunate, that Christian Aid support - with links to recourses on how to do this. Looking to good role models who are advocates for awareness, the Queens Platinum Jubilee is coming up in June. Following in her footsteps children could think of how they can support people in their community or National Shakespeare Day in April could aid young budding writers to raise awareness for others through the power of the written word.

Spiritual: Christian Aid Week is an annual event which aims to raise awareness and money. The money that is raised goes to help poor communities and enables them to deal with hardships from climate change and the possible threat of natural disasters. This year the focus for Christian Aid Week is droughts, which many countries around the world face. Find out more information here.
As a class you could use this week to explore more about droughts, what they are, where they occur and what causes them and the effects they have.

Moral: Deaf Awareness Week is all about promoting the positive aspects of living with deafness and learn how we can all become more deaf aware. With Rose Ayling- Ellis winning Strictly Come Dancing this year, many children will have become more curious to learn more about people living with deafness and an awareness of sign language as a form of communication.
In school you could have a go at learning some British Sign Language, or watch the dance that Rose performed here, where the music was silenced as she danced, so that we could all experience what it feels like to not hear.

Social: Shakespeare Day celebrates the birth of William Shakespeare on 23rd April 1564. Why not use the day to give children the opportunity to explore characters, stories and language from his most famous plays, in a fun and engaging way?
Perhaps you could “tell” a favourite Shakespeare story to your class, watch an animated version, create a character mask, find out about his life and writing career, or watch a BBC Shakespeare week live lesson here?

Cultural: The Platinum Jubilee celebrates the Queen’s 70-year reign, which began on 6th February 1952. As a school you could use the Queen’s example of serving her country, to inspire your children to become young people who want to serve others in their communities. The Platinum Jubilee schools has many ideas on how to put this into action check them out here .
