Film Students on Set of "Getting to Know You After You're Gone"

Northwestern Productions Film workshop students have been hard at work producing, "Getting to Know You After You're Gone" and have recently wrapped up filming!

We're excited to see the finished product on
April 11th, should it be accepted in the Five16 Film Festival!

Campus News

Students in our TV news workshop have been busy covering various events around campus. In recent reporting, theMEL media reported on the Dog Sledding event that Commuter Life hosted on the Island.

If you have questions about why Northwestern is selling the Pittman housing buildings, make sure to check out the interview with John Sommerville, the VP of Finance and Operations, who explains the reasoning here. Once again, some great reporting from our students in theMEL Media.

To check out the reporting, make sure to follow @themel.media on Instagram to stay updated on campus news!

What are your plans for the future?

In the future I hope to publish a collection of my favorite stories that I have written since my junior year. I want to go beyond my small groups of friends and share these stories with other people. I also hope to find work at a film studio after I graduate

What opportunities have you had at UNW?

One of the biggest opportunities I had at UNW was helping with a film for the film festival. It was always something I wanted to do after seeing the festival many times in the past. This next is the chance to start drawing and writing due to the clubs and people around me. They’re things that I will do for a long time even after I leave.

What is your favorite thing about UNW?

One of my favorite things at UNW would be the events. I enjoy how they bring people together, especially with everything that’s been happening for the past couple of years.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I enjoy the challenge of finding creative ways to tell brands’ stories and writing across a variety of platforms. Collaborating with my smart, talented teammates is also a highlight.

What are skills/experiences from UNW did have been useful in your job?

As a journalism major, Dr. Doug Trouten was my closest mentor and instrumental in teaching me how to research, write, edit, and study the world in a critical yet fair manner. I worked on The Northwestern Examiner staff my entire time at UNW and Dr. Trouten’s consistent trust in and gentle guidance of our team has stayed with me. I became a much better writer and person under his teaching feel very fortunate to have learned under him.

What advice do you have for current students that want to go into the industry?

I would encourage current students to do as many internships as possible. That real job experience combined with what you learn in class will be a huge help in preparing you for your career. Also, stay informed; read newspapers.
