Members Survey Results

I greatly appreciate the over 400 members who responded to the survey we conducted at the end of last year; your comments were very useful. I promised to share what you told us and what we were planning to do in the light of what you said, I apologise that my reply is quite so tardy. (You will note that we have captured your comments using word clouds, in which the more frequently you mentioned the word in your response that larger it appears in the cloud.)

We asked why you are a member.

30% of respondents are using the Club as an Edinburgh base and somewhere to relax, 15% are members because of their military connections and 21% are members to take advantage of the Club’s food and drink facilities and social programme, 10% as a place to work and 5% for hotel accommodation and reciprocal facilities.

We asked about attracting younger members.

You suggested a business suite and business facilities, networking events and arranging events aimed specifically at a younger audience.

We asked about attracting specific groups of new members.

You suggested a wide range of groups.

What have we done?

In response to the survey, we have sought to address the quick wins!

The coffee machine is back in the members lounge, the newspapers are there, and the dress code has been relaxed. We’ve introduced a new bar food menu with a more up to date range of options, whilst keeping the old favourites.

We are about to finalise converting The Lyell Room into a quiet space with individual desks for somewhere else to work and the old Members telephone cupboard will shortly be up and running as a “Zoom room”.

It was obvious that some members were not fully aware of all the privileges of membership, and we will remind you in e-newsletter in due course.

We are working on a marketing plan to attract more new members across all age groups taking into account some of the ideas you put forward. We will also continue to review things for the long-term benefit of both the Club and its members.
