Join us for the launch of the Youth Participatory Budgeting (PB) Accelerator Toolkit and DIY Manual

The toolkit provides detailed guidance to support the design and delivery of youth led PB. The free on-line resource includes everything from the values that underpin youth participation, enabling conditions for youth PB to thrive, the typical stages of a school or community PB process and good practice case studies from across Europe and America. It is accompanied by a DIY Manual with helpful resources and tools to support Youth PB.
This on-line interactive workshop will be in English. There will be three other launch events happening in each of the project partner countries including, Poland; Spain; and UK - (England, Scotland and Wales on 17 March 2022) The Erasmus+ research partnership brings together five partners from across three countries. The project is co-ordinated by the Polish Foundation Soclab, with collaborators from Field of Dialogue in Poland, the University of Granada’s Medialab in Spain, as well as Shared Future CIC in the UK and Community Places in Northern Ireland.

Leadership Programme open for applications!

Building Leaders, Building Peace: A Grassroots Leadership Programme
We are seeking individuals from a range of communities across Northern Ireland to take part in our Building Leaders, Building Peace: A Grassroots Leadership Programme. An exciting programme that encourages individuals to challenge themselves, as they work with people from across political and religious divides, building their resilience and confidence to help transform local communities.
The programme will last 12 months and aims to support the development of emerging community leaders whose work is focussed on the regeneration of interfaces and/or communities where more concentrated peacebuilding efforts are needed. It will help develop their confidence and capacity to address division, segregation, prejudice and hate; issues that impact on community cohesion and hold communities back.
Participants will commit to a range of support and development opportunities including:
- Completion of an accredited training programme such as an ILM Level 5 in Leadership & Management, sourced by CFNI and delivered by highly experienced facilitators and trainers (training is likely to take circa six months to complete and will incorporate online/face to face learning, completion of assignments/workbooks, tutorials etc)
- Monthly one-to-one mentoring provided by highly qualified and experienced mentors/coaches and community leaders. Mentoring will take place throughout the programme and will support participants to explore and develop their individual leadership confidence, style, and skills (mentoring will require a minimum commitment of 1hr per month, potentially 2 hrs in some months)
- Opportunities for bespoke learning and development based on participant’s needs (where CFNI budget can facilitate this)
Regular thematic workshops facilitated by experienced practitioners across a range of areas such as self-care & resilience in community activism, transformative leadership, conflict management, public speaking & presenting (participant commitment will require participation on at least three workshops during the programme lasting from 1.5 hrs to full days per workshop, depending upon the theme)
- Networking with fellow participants and those from their respective community-based organisations (social distancing guidelines permitting)
- Opportunities to participate in thematic workshops, webinars, conferences and learning through CFNI partner organisations including the Social Change Initiative
- Development and leading on a Leadership in Action project, funded by the programme, linked to needs within their local community and connected to projects being developed by their peers on the programme cohort
- Regular review and evaluation of personal progression, setting of individual leadership goals and milestones, sharing learning and development with CFNI

Village Catalyst Grant Scheme | Department for Communities From £10k-£200k
The Village Catalyst grant scheme is a partnership initiative between the Department for Communities (DfC), the Department for Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) the Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF), and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE). Applications are invited from charities, social enterprise and other not for profit groups in rural villages of less than 5,000 people,

The Prince of Wales's Charitable Foundation opens small grants programme
PWCF considers small grant applications from UK registered non-profit organisations supporting grassroots projects in diverse and deprived communities. The small grants programme awards single or multi-year grants to a maximum value of £5,000. The average award is £1,500.
KFC Foundation: Community Grants Programme
The KFC Foundation provides grants of £200 - £2,000 to support grassroots organisations in the heart of their restaurant’s communities. Organisations empowering young people in the UK to fulfil their potential by providing safe social spaces, mentoring or work, and social skills. Expression of Interest deadline 13 March 2022.
Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation: Victorian Theatres – Small Repairs Fund
They provide capital funding towards discreet and vital repairs or conservation projects in listed theatres built between 1837 and 1910. Prioritising support for theatres where the programme of performing arts activity includes or will include a focus on encouraging social, economic, and cultural diversity in the arts, they fund vital repair projects for which it is otherwise difficult to raise money. Awarding individual grants of up to £15,000 on a matched funding basis. Register your interest by 15 March 2022.
ASDA: Empowering Local Communities Grant
Designed to support a broad range of activities which can contribute towards transforming the community and improving the lives of people in that community, there are four options to choose from under this grant. It’s possible to apply for a combination: Building Resilient Communities, Active Lives, Leading Healthier Lives, and Seasonal Celebrations & Festivals which can also be used to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee between 2nd June and 5th June 2022. Grants from £500 up to £1,500.
Sport NI - Project Re-Boot: Activate
Project Re-Boot: Activate, part of the Supporting Sport to Build Back Better programme aims to grant investment in new and innovative projects intended to support the engagement and re-engagement of participants into sport. Supporting medium scale projects and initiatives that are creative and innovative, they encourage the collaborative working and projects should focus particularly on people from groups who have been especially impacted by Covid-19. This is a crowdfunding scheme. Deadline 18 March 2022. |

Baily Thomas Charitable Fund
Baily Thomas funds projects to aid research into learning disability and to aid the care and relief of those affected by learning disability by making grants to voluntary organisations working in this field. Grants range from £250 to high thousands. Deadline 1 March 2022
Department of Health: Advance Care Planning Seeds Grants
This new Seed Grant programme offers supports for creative responses from communities across Northern Ireland seeking to reflect on their experience of the pandemic and plan ahead. Grants up to £2,000. Deadline 12pm(noon) on 4 March 2022.
National Churches Trust: Cornerstone Grants
The Cornerstone Grant Programme offers grants of between £10,000 and £50,000 towards the cost of major urgent structural repair projects costed at more than £100,000 including VAT. They will also consider projects that introduce kitchens and accessible toilets to enable increased community use, costed at more than £30,000 including VAT. Deadline midnight on 7 March 2022.
BBC Radio 4 and BBC One Lifeline Appeal
Lifeline is a monthly 10-minute programme broadcast on BBC One highlighting the work of a charity and appealing for donations to support its activities. The appeal aims to provide an opportunity for raising money and awareness to a variety of charities. There are 11 Lifeline Appeals each year. If you would like to apply for a BBC Radio 4 or BBC One Lifeline Appeal, please email the BBC
Charity Appeals Unit telling them: Name of your charity, Your Charity Registration number (you must be registered with the UK Charity Commission to be eligible), and Name of charity contact (email and phone no.) for the person completing the application form. Deadline is 23:59 on 7 March 2022.
Cultivating Community Farming
Cultivating Community Farming (CCF) is an exciting new support programme funded by the Co-op Foundation that will accelerate the growth and capacity of community farming projects across Northern Ireland (NI) over 2 years through networking, mentoring, skills development and capacity building. The main goal of the CCF project is to accelerate the growth and capacity of community farming projects in Northern Ireland.
