On Wednesday, March 2nd, competitors at the last powerlifting meet were Daniela Maximo, Brianna Salazar, Valerie Garza, Elyda Longoria, Sarahi Rodriguez, Demi Lopez, and Tori Medina. The meet ended with Daniela Maximo finishing 3rd and qualifying for the State Meet. Her lifts were 290 pound Squat, 135 pound bench press, and 280 pound deadlift totaling 705 pounds.

Ecology Students Spruce Up The Garden

On February 28, 2022, Harlingen South's Ecology club beautifies the butterfly garden. Danny Yuepell and Isaac Giraud add soil to plant flowers for the butterflies. Yafah Russek, is hard at work shoveling and removing weeds. Valeria Bautista picks up dry branches and litter to make space for new gardens.

February 28th Harlingen South's water polo team played against Harlingen High at the Aquatics Center. Girls played a amazing game with the score of 6-3, beating Harlingen High.

UTRGV Library kicked off our new Lunch and Learn series. They shared important research and study skills needed to succeed in college. The sessions will take place in the library and students can pick up a pass in Room 301. This is a collaboration between South College and Career and South Library.

The purpose of "Pampered Pooches" is to address basic veterinary assistant skills. The lab provides services to employees twice a month for a nominal fee. this service will benefit all students enrolled in Pre-Veterinary Academy. Students are instructed in client relations, recording animal health history, proper techniques for examination of coat and skin conditions, basic anatomy, bathing procedures, brushing, care of ears, nails, and proper sanitation. students are also introduced to business management principals. They are responsible for developing and operating budget and marketing, purchasing and maintaining inventory, and rendering service while maintaining customer satisfaction.

NHS sponsored a water stop at Jalapeño 100k Bike Ride on Saturday, February 26th. NHS members passed out water and snacks to cyclists at 22 miles (station 3) in Raymondville.

The performing arts students from Harlingen South will perform for One Act play on March 5th. The play consists of 6 actors and is called "The Things I know to Be True", the team will compete in their first round of district very soon. They need to make it through 5 rounds to qualify for state. The group has made it to state before and are excited to compete again!

The boys varsity basketball team won the Bi-district championship title on Wednesday, February 23, and celebrated by cutting the net. They finished 2nd overall with an amazing record of 9-5.

Our GEAR UP students had the opportunity to tour the Automotive, Welding, and Wind Tech programs at TSTC. Each instructor was able to share the benefits their program offered and , most importantly, the many career opportunities that awaits them after completing their program of choice. Air Force JROTC Cadets Recognized

Harlingen South Air Force JROTC executive leaders Lieutenants Samuel Nieto, Aerin Perkins, and Yadira DeJesus presented appreciation portraits to Cameron County Precinct 4 employees for their unselfish act and services to our cadets at the Air Fiesta event. Pct. 4 employees all had positive words to describe the high character traits and values displayed by the cadets. Master Sgt. Tsukano said, "The unselfish volunteerism of the representatives of Cameron County Precinct 4: Mike Vasquez, Joshua Trevino, and Jose Zavala for our students is a testament to enduring community commitment to our cadets during difficult times."
