Audition for the Pit of Musical Forum's Spring 2022 MainStage Show, RENT!
Directed by Sam Caplan '22; Assistant Directed by Juliana Morgado Brito '24; Vocal Music Directed by Ben Thornton '24; Orchestra Directed by Alp Köksal ‘22; Stage Managed by Lia Ortner '25
Performances will be March 18th-20th, with tech starting on March 14th.
We are looking for the following instruments:

TOMORROW, Thursday, March 3rd from 6:00-9:00pm

You will be asked to play a scale (unless you're a drummer) and 32-64 bars of a piece of your choosing on your instrument.

Granoff N420 (Studio 2)
The Department of Music presents guest artist Mike Bullock on March 2 in a lecture/demo at Studio 2 (N420) in the Granoff Center. Bullock will discuss and demonstrate his Wave Field Synthesis speaker array. Later that evening in the same space from 5-8pm, visitors are welcome to observe and listen to Ephemerospheres, an installation of electroacoustic audio works for the Wave Field Synthesis speaker array. Bullock’s visit to Brown is made possible in part through the Brown Arts Institute’s Guest Artist Fund.

Aashish Kumar — Body, Home, World: South Asian American LGBTQ+ Journeys

Please save the date and attend this upcoming event presented by our friends at the Watson Institute's Center for Contemporary South Asia. "Body, Home, World" is a web-documentary on the South Asian American LGBTQ+ community, its complex and rich bond with family, colonial history, and other communities of color. The creator of this work is Aashish Kumar, a Professor of radio, television and film at Hofstra Unviersity and an award-winning documentary filmmaker and social action scholar whose work turns a spotlight on issues such as emerging democracies, social stigmas, globalization, migration, civic engagement, and grassroots advocacy. And, last but not least, the original music score of "Body, Home, World" was composed by Brown University Musicology & Ethnomusicology PhD candidate Ravi Krishnaswami.

Brown University Wind Symphony Concert

The Brown University Wind Symphony, directed by Kevin Plouffe, performs a concert in Grant Recital Hall on Friday, March 4 at 8pm. The program features music by David Gillingham, Timothy Brege, Charles Ives/Richard Thurston, and Rossano Galante. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Feminist Musicking Series is a salon-style gathering open for women and gender non-conforming individuals in our community. The series is thought of as a non hierarchical peer-to-peer mentoring program and hopes to bring together a wide array of participants: undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty alike. Julie Hunter: Women in Ethnomusicology & African Drumming

The Brown University Department of Music presents guest artist and Brown PhD alum Julie Hunter as part of the lecture-demonstration series “Women in Ethnomusicology & African Drumming.” The organizer of the series is Kwaku Kwaakye (Martin) Obeng who directs Brown’s Ghanaian Drumming & Dancing Ensemble and the World Music Ensemble. This event is free and open to the public. Attendees must wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.

Brown Jazz Band featuring Ingrid Jensen perform the 34th Eric Adam Brudner ’84 Memorial Concert

Salomon Center
Special guest artist and trumpeter Ingrid Jensen joins the Brown Jazz Band, directed by Ed Tomassi, for the 34th annual Eric Adam Brudner ’84 Memorial Concert. The event takes place at Salomon Center’s DeCiccio Auditorium. Jensen will play several selections with the big band and with a jazz combo, and the program features arrangements by Bob Brookmeyer, Alan Baylock, John Fedchock, and Nelson Riddle. Learn more about Ms. Jensen and the legacy of the Brudner Concert. General admission tickets cost $5. Proceeds go to the Brown Jazz Band Tour Fund. Masks are required on all audience members regardless of vaccination status.

University Organist Mark Steinbach performs a recital on the Sayles Hall 1903 Hutchtings-Votey pipe organ at 4pm on Sunday, March 13. The repertoire Mr. Steinbach has selected for this recital celebrates the spring solstice and Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday. Admission is free and open to the public. Masks are required.
