As part of the Community Data Program's ongoing data access strategy, Census 2021 Tableau Dashboards will be created following each Census release.
On February 9th, 2022 Statistics Canada released the first round of 2021 Census Data: Population and Dwelling Counts. The Community Data Program team has created a dashboard aimed at facilitating access to this new data to all CDP members. Instead of having to download a Census table, CDP members will simply be able to download an infographic style dashboard and select a geography of interest.

Components of population change by single year of age, five-year age group and sex for the period from July 1 to June 30, annual, based on the Standard Geographical Classification (SGC) 2016. The components include births, deaths, immigrants, emigrants, returning emigrants, net temporary emigration, net interprovincial migration, net intraprovincial migration, net non-permanent residents and residual deviation.
The public use microdata file (PUMF) for the Canadian Housing Survey (CHS) provides information on core housing need, dwelling characteristics, housing tenure, perceptions on economic hardship from housing costs, dwelling and neighbourhood satisfaction, housing moves and intentions to move, community engagement, life and community satisfaction and socio-demographic characteristics. The survey features an oversample of households in social and affordable housing.
The Community Health Profile Dashboard provides a health overview of health regions across Canada, using data from the 2017/2018 Canadian Community Health Survey, including smoking frequency, access to a regular healthcare provider, and prevalence of hearth disease. These indicators are compared across the total, immigrant, recent immigrant populations.
To fully measure the shock to the Canadian labour market resulting from the COVID-19 economic shutdown, a series of survey enhancements have been included in the Labour Force Survey as of April 2020, including additional questions on: working from home; concerns related to job loss; capacity to meet financial obligations; and applications to federal COVID-19 assistance programs.
To ensure that the full scope of the labour market disruption is captured, supplementary indicators are also featured, including measures of the number of Canadians who kept their job but worked reduced hours, and the number who did not look for work because of the unique circumstances associated with the shutdown.
Canadian business patterns data provide counts of active establishments by industry classification and employment size categories. The data are compiled from the Business Register, which is a repository of information on the Canadian business population.

Stefka will share her experience using Tableau Public to adapt the Community Recovery Dashboard to reflect her organization’s local geography and themes of interest. By the end of the workshop, webinar participants will gain an understanding of the basics of using Tableau Public to adapt CDP Tableau dashboards to suite local priorities.
