How Will Russia's Invasion of Ukraine Affect Global Food Security? | Ongoing fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors have already driven up food prices. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will further disrupt global markets, will have negative consequences for global grain supplies in the short term, and by disrupting natural gas and fertilizer markets, have negative impacts for producers as they enter a new planting season.

Diversification Key to Building Resilient Agrifood Systems | A recent IFPRI policy seminar examined the implications of fragile agrifood systems and the findings of FAO’s The State of Food and Agriculture 2021 (SOFA) report. The report focuses on diversification in building resilience across all relevant sectors and layers of government institutions to improve every country’s capacity to absorb shocks and stresses.
COVID-19 and Rising Food Prices: What's Really Happening? | In January, international prices for major food items climbed to a level near the heights of the global food price crises of 2007-08 and 2010-11, according to the FAO Food Price Index (Figure 1). The spike has raised concerns over the potential for another global food crisis, increasing hunger among the poor and, possibly, social unrest around the world.
