CaseyU3A Bulletin March 4, 2022
Computer course
We are all expected to use computers in today's society.
Very little if any allowance is made for those who did not grow up with computers & digital technology.
This makes it very difficult for many members who have not been shown the basics of computers & provided with the opportunity to learn & gain confidence using a computer.
Asking the grandkids to show you or fix a problem does not provide the slower, methodical learning pace required if you are not comfortable with a computer.
CaseyU3A by necessity provides a lot of services & information with the use of computers.
We currently provide one course for computers. It is for those that have more experience with computers.
Would you like to see more computer courses by CaseyU3A?
If so what would you suggest as the topics to assist you?
e.g set up an email account & how to use it
how to use the internet
how to use Zoom
how to use spreadsheets, word documents
Clicking on links
Please send your comments & suggestions to communications@u3acasey.org.au
The irony of this article is that if you are currently not using a computer you will not be reading this.
If you know someone who you feel could be interested in learning about basic computing, please reply on their behalf - after discussing with them.
This will assist us to gain a picture of what is required within CaseyU3A members for assistance in learning basic computing & later progressing a little further.

Website & Facebook
Following on from the above article, in addition to the Bulletin, we also provide information via the CaseyU3A website & the recently introduced Facebook private group.
Both the website & Facebook provide a means of getting information to members in between Bulletins.
The frequency of Bulletins can be an issue. We do not want to send out too many - they lose impact - however, we do want to get information to members.
The new website also contains the new member management system.
The website & Facebook require a level of comfort in using computers.
Therefore the reason for the article above.
Visit the website on a regular basis for updates & new information - click here to visit website
Click here to visit & join U3A Casey Facebook private group
Facebook can be good for commenting on classes & what is going on at CaseyU3A - builds communications with other members.

Rossmoyne Update
The situation with Rossmoyne is frustrating.
When we agreed to use Rossmoyne in November last year we understood & accepted it would be closed for a period of time for renovations.
It was expected the renovations would be completed about now.
Due to Covid - Covid gets blamed for everything - the renovations have been delayed.
There is a general shortage of supplies. This is common knowledge & unfortunately must be accepted.
At this time there is no confirmed timing on when the renovations will take place.
We have discussed this with Casey Council. They will get back to us with the latest situation to the best of their knowledge.
Noelene Duff - Casey Council Administrator - has been very helpful & reacted very quickly to our communications.
Noelene has asked the Manager Active Communities to look into the situation & advise both herself & CaseyU3A about the latest timing of the renovations.
Rossmoyne is well located & provides facilities that CaseyU3A could utilize & provide good facilities for members.
Currently, it is underutilized & this is also being considered to establish if CaseyU3A could be provided with additional use to the room we use for the office.
Lorraine Sterling - office manager - has set up the office & is providing a central point for members & potential members to drop in & ask questions.
The current situation means we cannot set up fully as we will be required to move out any equipment etc when the renovations take place.
We are hopeful the renovations will take place ASAP.
Based on the use to date, it should be worth the wait.
We will keep you informed.
Photography Competition for U3A's
U3A Network Victoria is launching a photography competition for members of U3As  to ‘Show Us How You U3A!’  Let’s challenge the stereotypical images of older people we see so often in the media and in advertising – and get the word out to the Victorian community about U3As at the same time.

We want to source images of U3A members being active, being social, learning, teaching, having fun and enjoying being together to use in Network’s marketing and advertising campaigns.

Entries that meet the following criteria will be featured in a virtual gallery space on Network’s website and may be used in other digital or hardcopy communications: Images must have sufficient quality for digital reproduction Images of people being active, engaging in something fun or interesting people shown in groups or pairs to emphasise the sense of community fostered by joining a U3ACreativity in how a scene is depicted – think interesting angles, backgrounds, close up shots of people doing things with their hands like art or using a device consider diversity and inclusion in your entries photographer and the subject(s) must provide a signed photography release form that gives copyright of the image to Network
Entries close on 29 April so start polishing those lenses, put your creative hats on and get out there to show us how you U3A. Remember – all those persons in a submitted image must consent to you to use of their image before you send it to us.

Click on this link to download the Photography Release Form. You may submit as many images as you like, but they must be accompanied by the Form. How to upload your entries: Rename your images with your name and U3A so we know who submitted the entry – or save them into a folder that has your name and U3A on it to our DropBox folder and upload your entries email us with any queries or questions.  Information about the competition is also available on Network’s website here.  Please share information about this competition with your members. Good luck and have fun!U3A Network Victoria Marketing Subcommittee
