Earlier this week, the Oregon Department of Education announced that the indoor mask mandate in schools will be lifted on March 12, moving the date up one week. At that time, schools will make their own decision about mask usage based on their county’s level of COVID-19 case counts. The announcement also included changes to how schools may use COVID-19 testing, contact tracing and quarantines to keep students learning at school when they are not sick.
Valley Catholic School administrators are evaluating these recent changes, as well as the information we received in the parent and staff surveys. Our plan is to have a decision about mask removal to share with families before Spring Break. Until a decision is made, our current practice will remain in place.
March is SSMO Heritage Month, a time when the entire campus celebrates the history and legacy of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon. For nearly 140 years, the Sisters’ mission has provided direction for everything we do on the SSMO campus – and certainly informs the values and traditions of Valley Catholic School. We will be honoring the Sisters all throughout the month of March, in creative ways that are in line with current COVID-19 protocols.
For all of us, this is a time to say thank you to the Sisters for their vision, heart and deep commitment to Valley Catholic School, and to hold them in our prayers.
Valley Catholic Drama Presents Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka
Based on the iconic 1964 novel, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is the delightful tale of the eccentric candy maker and the children he takes on an unforgettable tour of his chocolate factory. This recent stage adaptation of Willy Wonka includes classic songs from the 1971 movie, like “The Candy Man,” “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” and “Pure Imagination.” This high-energy production is appropriate for all ages and audiences.
