Western Kentucky Fundraiser

Well done Josephine helping people in Western Kentucky at the Sea Island Farmers Market last Saturday. You can still contribute to the relief effort by making a donation through St. John's Parish Church and write Anglican Relief Fund or ARDF on your gift or go to the Anglican Relief Donation Page https://ardf.org/joseph-fund.

Uganda Clergy Children’s Scholarships

St. John’s parishioners provide 75 clergy children in the Anglican Diocese of Northern Uganda (grades 3 - 12) with education scholarships. Each $150/year scholarship is nearly equivalent to a priest’s annual salary. For the same dollar value in the U.S., you can do 10 times more in this landlocked country of East Africa.

Thanks to your generosity, clergy children’s scholarships have grown from 30 when the program began. Bishop Lawrence commented that we “punch above our weight” in mission and outreach!

Please prayerfully consider donating a scholarship or partial scholarship. In the memo line of your donation check or online, write: Uganda Scholarships. The clergy children and their families will be blessed. And you will be blessed as well.

Disaster Relief Teams Needed in Louisiana

Over the past year, (SHDR) Servant’s Heart Disaster Relief has been partnering with (ARDF) Anglican Relief and Development Fund to support their response following hurricane Ida in Louisiana and the tornado in Kentucky.

We are asking for volunteers to go to Louisiana in March and April to help elderly families repair their homes. I will be leading the March 19-26 with St Johns Parish, come join me!
Stephen Haynsworth

Ida hit the gulf in late August devastating the coast. We delivered a trailer of supplies to Trinity LaFayette and have stayed in contact with ARDF and the churches of the West Gulf Coast Diocese. They can support work teams to help replace sheetrock, siding, and other home repairs. We are looking for volunteers from the ADoSC to fly to New Orleans for a week to work on damaged homes. The West Gulf Coast Diocese will support us with housing, food, tools, and building materials. We would leave on a Saturday and come back the next Saturday. We are looking for teams of 6-12 people, team leaders with construction experience, age 18+, caring and willing to work and learn. (We can support youth groups ages 14+ with approved youth leaders). We will look to put teams together for March 5-12, March 19-26, April 9-16, and April 23-30. The cost is $500, and individuals can pay, get support from friends, their local church and request funding thru SHDR/ARDF. The covid requirements to flying are proof of being fully vaccinated. We will check temperatures each morning.
Those interested should respond to ARDF at https://ardf.org/volunteer.  If you can bring a team and want another time, even this summer, email kelli@ardf.org and haynsworthsa@gmail.com .

Dinner for St Alban's Chapel at The Citadel

Monday, April 11, 2022

St. John's will provide dinner for St Alban's Chapel prior to the Monday night worship service at The Citadel. More information to follow, but if you would like to be involved with preparing or serving food, please contact Ben Dixon for more information.

About St Alban's

The St. Alban's Anglican Chapel has offered chaplaincy and worship in the Anglican tradition to the Corps of Cadets since 1941.  St Alban's is both the longest running and continually operating chaplaincy program and Christian ministry on The Citadel campus.  Their Ministry of Presence offers an open door to any and everyone in need without condition.  They minister to students, staff, alumni, and veterans on The Citadel campus, as well as students from the College of Charleston and Charleston Southern University. Their Radical Hospitality is committed to providing dinner, free of charge, at all gatherings, and maintain a lounge on campus, stocked with coffee, food and water. The lounge is open each day for study, sleep, fellowship, and Bible study.

St. Alban's is 100% dependent on the generosity of friends and donors, and St. John's is honored to join with other parishes in the Diocese in support of St. Alban's and its valuable ministry to the college students in the Charleston area.

St. John's requires a Nursery Worker

Would you like to work in our Nursery, or do you know of someone who might be perfect to help care for our youngest church members? This position is paid and requires you to work from 9-12 noon on Sunday mornings. Please contact Sally Dixon at 843-559-9560 if you have any questions.

Tornado devastation

Anglican Relief and Development Fund® (ARDF)

Deadly tornadoes killed an estimated 100 people and destroyed a thousand properties, leaving tens of thousands without power. Western Kentucky was especially hard hit. ARDF has trusted partners willing and able to respond to the crisis. You can support them by donating to their Joseph Fund. This fund exists to get funds out quickly to churches and affiliated nonprofits to support the efforts of volunteers responding to the crisis.

If you would like to support this cause, you can either donate through St. John's Parish Church and write Anglican Relief Fund or ARDF on your gift or go to the Anglican Relief Donation Page https://ardf.org/joseph-fund

A Prayer for Western Kentucky

Almighty God, giver of life and restorer of all things; provide the light of your Son Jesus Christ to shine in the midst of darkness for the people of western Kentucky.  Abide with them through clean up, restoration, and rebuilding.  Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Collect

March 6
Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations, and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of March, we pray for the nation of Ukraine.  Heavenly Father, we pray for Christians to persevere through war; we ask you for peace, the presence of Almighty God, to be with all people in Ukraine.  May your Spirit preside over your people.  Through your only Son our Savior Jesus Christ.
Lord, in your mercy.  Hear our prayer.
