Celebration of the EMA Program turning 25
!Stay Tuned!

20 years celebration group photo, 2017, Lido
Dear Alumni,

The year that went by was another big challenge for all human beings and our wish is that you have all managed to take good care of yourselves and your loved ones. The vibrant community of the EMAlumni Association is gathering its strengths, ideas and aspirations and is welcoming 2022 with re-newed energy and determination to enhance our network and promote human rights, through any possible means.

In November 2021, Gabriel Alves de Faria moved on from the position of the Secretary General of the Association towards new and exciting projects. Gabriel's contribution to the advancement of the Association's goals has been remarkable and we hope for his new path to be as creative, as was his work with us.
I am honored to take up this creative role and support our community in enhancing personal and professional links, create new collaborations and fight for social justice and human rights, against all challenges. I would like to urge all our members to contact the Association, even without a specific proposal in mind. A simple discussion might work miracles.

Entering the New Year, we kicked-off the "Conversations with Alumni", providing a platform for online discussions among our members, over a dedicated human rights or democratization related topic. In the framework of this project, discussions on digital rights, migration, child rights, arts, the situation in the Middle East and in Afghanistan, alumni book presentations and more have already taken place. It is a tool for alumni to present work experiences, a meeting place to share knowledge and create new synergies.

The network of Ambassadors that reside all around Europe, in the second semester destinations of the EMA program, has been mobilized and the local hubs now await the current EMA students to help them indulge in the local community feeling and provide support. New Career and Well-being webinars will take place in the springtime, while the EMAlumni Award and the annual General Assembly will follow right after.

Year 2022 marks the 25 years of the EMA Program and it is a great occasion to celebrate. Ideas for ways to bring us together on this occasion are already on the table. The Association is open to any suggestion on how to celebrate the thriving community of human rights professionals and human rights activists who have been sharing the Lido experience, since the very beginning of the EMA.

Our message for the New Year is no different from any other year:
CONNECT WITH US
Let us share new powerful messages and create new and impactful projects.

Health, laughter and strength to all!

Penny
Secretary General of the EMAlumni Association
EMA HIGHLIGHTS

NEW SECRETARY GENERAL

We welcome Penny PAPASPYROPOULOU (EMA 2007) in the position of Secretary General and wish her an exciting and meaningful experience!

"We are extremely pleased that Penny has accepted the position as Secretary General. Her previous experience in the EMA community and passion to drive the Association is already proving an invaluable asset." Adam Jacobi Moller, President EMAlumni Association.

Penny has focused on education and training for vulnerable groups of people (IOM, Hellenic Ministry of Education and in grassroot organisations) and acted as an advisor in human rights (freedom of expression, corruption and right to information, child rights, migration) at the European Parliament. She is an activist and has a keen interest in Arts, Culture and Human Rights.

 ART & HUMAN RIGHTS

The EMAlumni Association aiming to highlight the power of arts and culture in human rights work and present the brilliant work of alumni in this field, initiated a new collaboration with Global Campus of Human Rights, offering the "Performing Music and Human Rights" workshop to the EMA 2021/2022 students, in November/December 2021.
