A warm hello from the Sunshine Coast <<First Name>>,
If you follow me on Instagram you know this summer I've been busy attending the local Sunshine Coast markets on weekends. This month I have been also been busily preparing for Fibrations Festival in Victoria on Sunday August 21st as well as creating a wholesale order for a new yarn shop in Squamish, Sweet Threads Yarn & Fibre. They will be carrying a selection of my naturally dyed Everlea Fingering as well as Everlea Mini Looms.

Fibrations Festival is at a new Victoria location this year, the Fernwood Community Centre and William Stevenson Park which will have vendors both inside and outside. This event is always a blast with over 70 vendors, an awesome table of raffle prizes, and just an all-round good-time vibe. You can find me at booth 70 with all my nature-dyed Everlea yarns as well as my handcrafted tapestry looms, including my newest 8"X11" Everlea Tapestry Loom (pictured below). All my loom kits come with a free online two-hour tapestry weaving workshop!

Will I see you there? If not, let me take the sting off shipping and offer you the discount codes VANCOUVERYARN for an additional 10% off all Everlea Yarn knitting and weaving kits or FIRSTEVERLEA for 10% off naturally dyed Everlea Fingering, Everlea Sport and Everlea Worsted yarns. I offer $15 flat rate shipping within North America and free shipping after $150 spent.

Upcoming Fibre Shows

Above: Janna knitting her Audrey Cardigan, Jane Richmond's original Audrey Cardigan.
This year I am attempting to knit one of Victoria designer Jane Richmond's classic designs, the Audrey Cardigan in time for Knit City at the end of September. I'm knitting my naturally dyed Everlea Fingering in the colourway Medium Osage and I'm about 25% done. As with all Jane Richmond patterns, it is beautifully written.

I will be also be vending at Fibrations Festival n Victoria this Sunday and if I have any free moments this is what I will be knitting. But...I'll actually be purling! This garter stitch cardigan is the perfect purled garter stitch project for me - because I knit Portuguese style where the purl stitch is the easiest and fastest stitch.

Are you knitting a Knit City sweater? Will see you at either of these events?

Fibres West - Langley
March 24th-25th

Fibres West is booked this spring for March 24th & 25th 2023 and it's back at the Cloverdale Agriplex!

We are grateful this event can continue, even after organizer Brenda Alexander took a huge loss when covid restrictions shut down the 2020 Fibres West event, after all us vendors had already set up. She did not receive any government help for the expenses/losses she incurred and is still raising funds to pay back vendors. Would you consider donating $10 or more to her Gofund Me? Small donations have gotten us almost 1/3 of the way to her goal of refunding the vendors from the March 2020 shutdown.

Earthand Gleaner's Intro to Local Cloth

Trillium Park on Monday, August 29th from 5:30 -7:30 pm (Rain or shine!)

Bonus: All participants will receive a free copy of Asparagus Magazine to take home!

Looking for a great way to end the summer and learn something new? Join the Earthand Society for their Intro to Local Cloth event to learn what cloth looks and feels like when it's grown and produced within Metro Vancouver.

Small groups will move around the Trillium Park Learning Garden in East Van and observe demonstrations by EartHand Gleaner artists of some techniques that go into making cloth from the land!

To keep this event as accessible as possible, they are offering registrations on a "pay what you will" scale. The opportunity to learn from EartHand is absolutely worth paying for, but they understand that not everyone has funds available for this kind of experience. Please register at the price point that's appropriate for you at this time.

A book about Canadian wool by Anna Hunter at Longway Homestead

Congratulations to Anna Hunter and publishers, 9/10 Publishing (kim Werker and Kate Atherly), on successfully funding her Sheep, Shepherd & Land book, set to be published in 2023.

Anna is a huge proponent of Canadian wool education and has also established a wool school at her Manitoba farm and spinning mill, as well as the the Canadian Wool website, which is "a place for wool education and advocacy - a place to come together as wool producers and consumers to work together for a stronger domestic wool industry."

The Canadian Wool website includes a map (broken down by province and territory) where any sheep farmer who has wool available to sell can fill out the form to be included.

Local Podcast Feature

Since October Katrina of Crafty Jaks began has been generously sharing her fibre knowledge in The Inquisitive Crafter podcast on Youtube. Episodes have featured knitting technique tutorials as well as brought spinners through the ins and outs of plying on a Turkish spindle, what to do with your first hand-spun yarns and how to measure yardage.
