Your Society

The ANZMBS has 199 members listed from 6 nations and including 64 institutions or bodies, many dating back to our incorporation in 2014. There have been boosts to membership at each of our conferences, which are held every couple of years. We have recently improved our membership database and management with an aim to improving communication with our members, keeping current addresses of members and improved the ease of maintaining an active membership (including renewal notifications).

If your membership is out of date, you can update it here (join us), and if you’d prefer us to be using a newer email address you can let us know here.

Got Marine Biotechnology News to Share?

We’d love to hear about your work in marine biotechnology and if possible, help to promote it via our website and society social media feeds. If you have anything you’d like us to share please email us.

Conference Wrap Up

The Society held our 4th conference as a joint virtual meeting together with the international Physiomar meeting on September 7-9, 2021.

A truly international forum was held, especially trans-Tasman, despite COVID barriers with:

  • 166 conference attendees, 62 of these were part of the ANZMBS stream.
  • Joint and separate sessions were held and ANZMBS and Physiomar attendees were able to connect and share their work.
  • The conference also included an industry session highlighting several Australian and NZ marine biotechnology companies.

The recorded video presentations from this conference are now available to ANZMBS members.
More details on how to view this content are later in this email - as an exclusive member's only benefit.

EDUCATION SURVEY

ONLY TAKES 5-10 MINUTES
Complete the Survey
We invite you to complete the online survey on education and training in marine biotechnology and the role that ANZMBS might play in this.

The survey should only take 5-10 minutes to complete and the information gathered will help us plan future education and training opportunities that the Society can undertake for the benefit of its members.

Thank you in advance for your participation.
Society Committee Changes
Could You Be Our New Industry Representative?

We thank Diane Purcell-Meyerink for her contribution as society Treasurer and welcome committee Kim Lee-Chang now into that role.
We also welcome Manya Sabherwal (BioTechNZ) and are currently scoping for Australian industry representation on the committee.

A full list of the Society committee membership can be viewed on our website. We strive to keep our committee active and meet 6 times per year, discussing how we can achieve the Society goals and provide benefits our members.
If you think you, or someone you know would be an ideal for our new rep, Please send your nominations to anzmarinebiotechnology@gmail.com.
Could You Be Our New Student Representative?

Please send your nominations to anzmarinebiotechnology@gmail.com.
This can either be yourself or someone you know, and include a statement about your background and why you'd like to join.

Our current student representative Sam McCormack has now finished his PhD so we are looking for new student representation on the committee.
Congratulations Sam and thank you for contribution to the society since its beginning.
Update on Student Prize in Conjunction with NZMSS
