Local News & Interest

    • Masham Churches - Forthcoming Services are on pages 5, 6 & 7 of Yoredale News which you can access above. There may be some changed arrangements, we suggest you check on the website below.

  • Continuing

    • An appeal to local residents:

      • At five past midnight on Tuesday the 15th of February, a high value theft of fuel took place from I’Anson Bros in Masham. An HGV parked on the same side of Thorpe Road outside I’Ansons, next to the boundary fence with the adjoining field. The HGV was very similar in appearance to those used to transport grain or bulk feed. The Police believe that the body of the vehicle contained tanks which were then used when fuel was pumped through pipe work that ran 400 yards through the field from the fuel storage tank.

      • The HGV was stationary in this location for two hours twenty minutes. The Police are appealing to anyone travelling the road from Grewelthorpe to Masham between five past midnight and 03:25. Did you see this vehicle, is there anything you remember about it, does your vehicle have a dash cam that may have captured the registration plate?

      • If you have any information relating to this incident please ring 101 and quote NYP-15022022-0044. PCSO Alison Swan, Ripon Police Station, Stonebridgegate, Ripon

    • Wildlife News

      • Curlews are currently returning to their nest sites around Mashamshire. Their characteristic calls are the sound of Spring arriving.

      • The Stray Ferret highlights the bird ‘s conservation in this article “Nidderdale landowner sets up curlew conservation project”

    • Jen Hurford, Clerk to Masham Parish Council asked this question of NYCC Highways:

      • Councillors would like to know when repair works will be carried out to Masham Bridge?

      • Ryan Smith, Acting Senior Project Engineer, Highways Area 6 Boroughbridge replied:

      • “Our contractor has visited the area and assessed the temporary traffic lights in operation and has confirmed the lights are working as they should be. It is important to note that it is possible as a result of people jumping the red light, triggering a reset to the phasing, is causing longer wait times and giving the impression that the lights are faulty. I can confirm the lights are working correctly.

      • In terms of the work to fix the parapet wall, I have been told an order has been raised for this element of work and plans are being developed to recover the remaining parts of the parapet wall still sat on the river deck. This task does require additional planning due to the high risks and cost involved.

      • Given we are nearing the end of the financial year, I am hopeful the work will be started before April.”

    • Vennells - An introduction on Facebook

      • Jon & Arlette Smashoo

      • In the meantime do pop on over to say hello!”

      • In April 2023, less than 14 months’ time, the new North Yorkshire Council will take over providing public services for every resident, household and community in the county. STAYING CONNECTED

Mashamshire Community Office works hard to keep you up to date with the latest information and items of interest.  We keep you connected in the following ways:

  • This newsletter for Locals, which is produced weekly - Usually on a Wednesday or Thursday - we would send a short "e" bulletin if there should be anything urgent.  Contact us if you have feedback or would like to contribute info.  Print and pass on to anyone without email.
  • The Mashamshire Community Facebook Page dedicated to sharing community news.
  • The Visit Masham Facebook Page which, though aimed at visitors, is a useful source of info about great things to do locally.
  • The VisitMasham.com which contains loads of information for both locals and visitors including a Directory of businesses and local groups, Events and community news.
All of these are only possible with the help of our wonderful volunteers.

CAN YOU HELP?

Our paid staff only amount to just over two FTE posts, we couldn't do without help from volunteers.  Our statutory funding covers a fraction of our staff hours.  This leaves the remaining hours plus ALL our overheads, most of which we cover by generating additional funds ourselves from things like ticket sales, advertising, the Flock Gallery and Town Hall bookings etc. We certainly couldn't do this without our volunteers. If you have time to spare and would like to support us, please do get in touch here.

These difficult times demand we do more, but our income-generating is limited by Covid.  So, here's a way to give something back to Mashamshire Community Office and help ensure we can continue our work for Masham.  Any help is so much appreciated - click to donate online or if you prefer, please call us on 01765 680200.

Kind regards
