                                                                                       March 14th, 2022
Dear Coaches and Teams:

The competition draws near!

This is the third and final newsletter with information about our Heartland Tournament. Please go to http://www.kcfirst.org and check the event listings for information on the topics of the previous newsletters.

If you have not already, please do these things immediately:

  • Sign up a student or two as a Student Ambassador.  Deadline has been extended till Wednesday. So far only 3 of 28 teams have completed the form. These teams have submitted: 1827, 5126, 5147. Please get your nominations in if you are not on this list. If you have a small team this season and feel you cannot submit a student as an ambassador, please still complete the form to indicate this.  Our Student Ambassadors are invaluable to us. Student Ambassador Training will be at 1 pm on Thursday in 302.
  • Have seniors and all students complete the Survey. See below for a list of teams with number of seniors that have completed the survey.

Quiet Room Available at Heartland

We are providing a room for students who need a break from the noise and stimuli during the regional. Encourage students who may need this to visit the Quiet Room in 208. Students are welcome with adults or without. The Quiet Room will be open the following hours:
Thursday 1 pm - 5 pm
Friday 9 am - 5 pm
Saturday 9 am - Noon

COVID-19 Protocol Update:

As COVID-19 cases have been trending downward and many of our KC metro communities are no longer considered to be at high risk for COVID transmission per CDC data, KC FIRST FRC Regionals are now mask-optional.

If your community is still considered to be at high risk or your school district still has a mask mandate inlace, we strongly encourage your team to wear masks.

The following protocols will remain in place:
  • Suspending the hi-five line for awards and handshakes at finals in favor of alternate ways to celebrate our teams.
  • Discontinuing the sharing of safety glasses during the event. Please have your teams and guests bring their own if they have them. Otherwise, safety glasses will be provided at the event.
  • Communicating with our volunteers regarding steps we can all take at competitions to promote good hygiene practices.
  • Placing hand sanitizer at various locations throughout our events.
  • Posting signage at events to promote hand washing.

Team Social:
The Team Social will be Saturday morning from 6:30 - 8:30 am in Olathe South's North Gym.  Tickets are $5 cash or check and can be purchased at the event.

Senior Surveys and Senior Recognition

Please have all your students complete this survey.

We have received Surveys from these teams (number in parenthesis indicates how many seniors completed the survey - we are looking at theirs especially before the event for our College Walk preparation to take place at Opening Ceremonies on Friday):

935 (1), 1706 (2), 1764 (3), 1776 (0), 1827 (3), 1987 (3), 1994 (0), 2457 (0), 4809 (0), 5119 (3), 5125 (0), 5126 (2).

If your team is not on this list or if you have more seniors, please forward your students the link to complete the survey.  We will check your team's status at check-in on Thursday.

Friday, March 18 is Senior Day at the Heartland FRC Regional. We plan to celebrate our seniors with a parade with our post-secondary partners on the field at the start of opening ceremonies (8:15 AM). We encourage seniors to wear spirit wear from their college choice. Please spread the word to students and parents that Friday is Senior Day at the Regional and to wear their favorite or chosen college's garb. In addition, we are asking colleges that exhibit on Scholarship Row to provide seniors with spirit wear to represent their college choice.

MASCOT PARADE AND OTHER STUDENT ACTIVITIES: Queuing for the Mascot Parade will be by Robot Inspection in the Pit Area Saturday at 8:15 am just before Opening Ceremonies. You do not have to have a mascot. A maximum of four students can participate.

See the Public Agenda for other Student and Special Activities your students won't want to miss.
EVENT FLYER:
Please forward this VIP tour sign-up as well as print this flyer  pass around so we can get your friends, family, and the general public in to this great tournament.
