Hi <<First Name>>

Welcome to the Newsletter for Feburary 2022.

Thankfully we got some rain early in the month, but if the weather gods are listening we could always do with more for the water tanks and garden.

PFWRA's Wetland Discovery

On the 12 February I had a great day visiting the Matuku Link project at Bethells.

We did a little tour and learnt lots from John Staniland about the work being done to restore this native wetland.

Speaker on the day was Melanie Dixon, Deputy Chair of the National Wetland Trust who went over what a wetland is. You can watch her talk HERE.

It was great to catch up with some familiar faces and discuss our mutual environmental work.  Here are some photos from the day HERE.

They plan to do a full open day soon, once we move down Covid levels in 2056. I encourage to go along when that happens.

They are having a VIP Kayak Day on 2 April, find out more information HERE

Pound a Possum update *PROJECT COMPLETED*

The traps were picked up and distributed to people at the Waitakete Train station on Feburary 10.

Looking forward to seeing how well they work on our facebook and trap.nz pages.

If you want to know how to register your own trap to log catches, follow this handy guide HERE.

It was great to meet and catch up with people in the group. The Wandering farmer has promised to arrange a future meeting at the RSA.

Where can I dump my Weeds (This month)

Do you have some invasive weeds in your own backyard you want to dispose of them for free, Auckland Council have bins setup at certain times for you to use.

New Report - What is the Best Bait?

Ever wondered what is the best bait for a certain Predator. And what works best in the Waitakere Ranges?

This has to be the the number one question we get asked “What is the Best Bait for ???”

Well the group now has a lot of data to graph this, whenever a capture log is entered. The “initial bait” is recorded from the last time the trap was re baited.

Check it out HERE.

His secret bait was Tomotoes...

Also congrats to "waitakdan" for becoming the Best Possum Trapper for the area. Knocking off "Wak Trapper".

End of the Line

The weather has been great, so we have been removing Kahili ginger Rizones.  So the free weed bins have been great.

Have a great Trapping month and be safe out there.
