This month, our email is a tiny bit lighter here at the Flute Examiner. You might notice that we don’t have a featured interview, but don’t fear—we’ll be back to bringing you interesting conversations with flutists of note next month. And along that line, we’d like to know if you, our readers, have any dream interview subjects who you would like to see in this space? If so, drop us an email at editor@thefluteexaminer.com or leave a comment on this note. We’ll chase them down! Here’s what we do have for you this month: articles from Kelly, Keith and me, dealing with some issues that can be difficult. I wrote about having students who play wonderfully in high school but have no desire to major in music, and why that’s OK with me and should be OK with you, too. Keith writes about how to go about changing teachers in a professional, respectful way and how you can know when it’s time. Kelly writes about performance mode and how not to listen to the critical voices we all house in our heads. Finally, our New York Women Composers offering this time is Nora Morrow’s “Emerald Fields,” a piece that interested me so much I went straight to purchase it after I saw the perusal score!
Enjoy this issue, and meet us back here in a month for more!
