Electric Vehicles
Are you thinking about getting an EV? The NSW Government is offering residents a significant rebate for the first time! If you are considering buying an EV, you can find out more about the rebate here.

It’s likely that many of us will own an EV in the near future—while this will increase our electricity consumption and our electricity bills, the good news is that it will still be cheaper to run than a combustion engine vehicle!

As a way to help residents understand if an EV is right for them, the Australian Energy Foundation (AEF) have launched a brand-new guide to help you answer that question. You can download it for free, here.

You can also join our webinar on Wednesday 8th March at 6:30pm to find out more about EV's. Click here to register

If you would like to speak with an Energy Advisor on how to support charging your EV and what the electricity requirements are, call AEF on 1300 23 68 55, or jump online to book a consultation at a time that suits you: aef.com.au/bookings

This independent, expert energy advice is free for all City of Canterbury Bankstown residents.
We Love our Rivers

We’re a City of three rivers – the Cooks, the Georges and Duck River.

Whether you’re a river regular or discovered your nearest waterway during lockdown, we’ve got a range of activities you can take part in to celebrate our rivers.

Join the Cooks River Paddle Against Plastic. You can join on land, bring your own kayak or book a canoe to clean up on the river. If citizen science is more up your alley join the AUSMAP Cooks River Community Day to learn about microplastics in the Cooks River.

We will also be hosting kayak tours of the Cooks River and biodiversity walks in Deepwater Park and Wolli Creek.

CBCity to be 100% Powered by the Sun

All Council facilities and streetlights in Canterbury-Bankstown will now be powered by solar energy.

The City of Canterbury Bankstown has finalised a new contract with Australian solar provider, ZEN Energy, which will increase Council’s renewable energy supply from 20 per cent to 100 per cent.

The renewable energy will be supplied from solar farms in Moree, Hillston and Nevertire.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said this was a massive achievement for Council.

“It means that when a resident uses our libraries, pools, sportsgrounds, community halls, or any other Council building, they are using a facility that is powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity,” Mayor Asfour said.

“This is just another step in the right direction in creating a greener Canterbury-Bankstown.

“We are showing our residents that buying renewable energy is achievable for all of us.”

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of 25 councils to sign the renewable energy contract, which was facilitated by Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC) and is due to commence in July 2022.

Collectively, the 25 councils represent more than three million people and almost 38 per cent of the state’s population.

CBCity is also developing a Zero Emissions Pathway and will continue to lower overall energy consumption through a range of projects including energy efficient street lighting and improving the efficiency in all our facilities, installation of solar and batteries on our buildings to power our electric vehicle fleet.

Sustainable Cities Awards
The City of Canterbury Bankstown has been acknowledged at Keep Australia Beautiful’s 2021 Sustainable Cities Awards.

Council’s Household Chickens and Food Waste Trial and the 13-part Garden to Kitchen to Compost Webinar series was highly commended in the Recycled Organics and Building Community Spirit and Inclusion Award categories.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said this was a great achievement for not only Council, but the whole community.

“Being recognised for our pioneering programs is extremely reassuring and proves that we are on the right track to be an even more sustainable City,” Mayor Asfour said.

“It also shows what incredible spirit and passion our community have; without their support these programs would never work.”
