Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, churches are encouraged to use the following Prayer for Peace which has kindly been produced by the Cumbia Ecumenical Spirituality Group.
The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell have condemned the Russian attack as “an act of great evil” and are urging Christians to make this Sunday a special day of prayer for Ukraine, Russia and for peace. They are also supporting a global day of prayer and fasting for peace on Ash Wednesday.
The ministry of a recently-ordained Barrow curate has featured heavily in a BBC One half-hour documentary broadcast this week.
Last summer a film crew followed the Rev Dr Sarah Richardson in the weeks following her ordination, spending time with her both in the church where she ministers - St Paul's Barrow - and in the Dalton-in-Furness GP practice where she is a partner.
On Wednesday night she featured in the 30 minute programme The Real Vicars of Dibleywhich forms part of the BBC's We Are England series.
Sarah is a self-supporting minister meaning she will continue in her role as a GP partner for three days a week, whilst also completing her curacy at St Paul’s.

Archbishop's Lent Walk Visit
The Archbishop of York will journey alongside the Bishop of Carlisle as part of a Lent Walk which begins next week.
Bishop James is grateful to his Chaplain, Canon Cameron Butland, who has drawn up a 21-day schedule which will see him criss-cross Cumbria to spend time with and draw alongside clergy in the Diocese throughout March.
The Lent Walk begins on Thursday 3 March, from the Diocese of Carlisle’s Church House office in Penrith, concluding on Wednesday 30 March at Carlisle Cathedral.
On Thursday 17 March, he will be joined by the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, on his first official visit to the Diocese since enthronement. The pair will visit the Crosslacon Team (Cleator Moor, Cleator, Arlecdon and Frizington) and Ennerdale.

Melvyn Bragg Cathedral Lecture
Cumbrian born author and broadcaster Melvyn Bragg will deliver a special lecture next month as part of Carlisle Cathedral's 900th anniversary celebrations.
Lord Bragg will give a talk in the Cathedral on Friday 18 March at 7.30pm on how William Tyndale’s revolutionary translation of the bible, which led to the King James version, influenced the way we use modern English today.
The lecture is part of a major programme of worship, events, talks, concerts and exhibitions throughout 2022 to mark 900 years since the foundation of Carlisle Cathedral.
Churches are encouraged to play a part in a forthcoming National Day of Reflection on Wednesday 23 March - the two year anniversary of the UK's first Covid lockdown.
The National Day of Reflection, coordinated by the charity Marie Curie and officially supported by the Church of England, is a special day to reflect together on loss and grief.
The focus of the day will be a minute's silence at 12 noon and churches are also encouraged to consider developing services on Sunday 20 March that detail the Day of Reflection – worship and prayer resources are provided to help further.
A short film is being prepared to prompt people to think about Jesus this Easter.
The film will feature Christians from around Cumbria sharing who Jesus is to them, and will be available for you to share on social media in the run up to Easter.
Leading Well is a new course and workshop for church elders and lay leaders which is run by Keswick Ministries.
It takes place from 7pm on 31 Marchto 1pm on 2 April 2022 at The Rawnsley Centre, Keswick, and aims to equip, encourage and nourish elders and those in lay leadership in churches who want to grow and develop in their calling as leaders, shepherds and servants of the local church.

The Methodist District of Cumbria is looking to appoint an Independent Chair of the District Safeguarding Committee.
This is a volunteer role chairing the Cumbria District Safeguarding Group - comprised of relevant District and Circuit officers - that meets generally three times a year (by Zoom or face to face, with expenses payable).
