Population ageing is a significant global achievement. Longer lives open up possibilities to continue being and doing what we value. However, broad societal changes will be required to maximise these possibilities.
In a new UNECE policy brief on 'mainstreaming ageing', learn more about how to integrate ageing into policies at all levels of governance to create societies that benefit all ages.

Building a global political movement to address social isolation and loneliness
A recent UN Decade of Healthy Ageing advocacy brief jointly published by WHO, ITU, UNDESA, and UN Women outlines three recommended global priorities to reduce social isolation and loneliness, one of which is the creation of a coalition to increase political commitment.
In response to this recommendation, WHO held an online discussion with 17 experts in the field from around the world on 7 February 2022. The discussion saw strong support for establishing a commission on social connection to help increase attention and accelerate action for this issue globally.

Progress on measuring, monitoring & evaluating the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing
To make the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing a success, we need to track our progress to ensure we are making a difference on the lives of older people, their families, and their communities.
WHO, in collaboration with UNDESA, UNFPA, UN Women, ILO, ITU, and the OECD, has established a new Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for the measurement, monitoring, and evaluation of the Decade.
The TAG held its first meeting on 14 February 2022 to establish the foundations for further work in this area. Stay updated with the TAG's activities by visiting its website.
