Hey y’all!
I got back in late Tuesday night, and feel like I have been going a million miles an hour the two days since I’ve been back. But the time away was refreshing, and while 9 hours in a car hits differently than it used to, I’m glad I had the time.
Having made the decision to be on vacation and not write while I was away, I only have two new posts for you this week:
What We Leave Behind: Some frank talk about death, dying, and what happens next.
Connection: I miss feeling known.
Monthly review:
It’s the last newsletter of the month, which means it’s time for a monthly review of where we are. On the blog this month to date, I have published 21,925 words, over 17 posts. The longest post by far was The Heart Transplant Diaries, which was more than 7,000 words.
The most-read new posts on the blog were The Heart Transplant Diaries and The Woo-Woo, but last month’s Advice You Will Ignore continues to bring in traffic, surpassing everything else I have written on the blog for the second month in a row. That piece resonates with lots of people.
Most readers were in the US, with Canada and the UK coming in second and third.
Other things I think you will like:
I’m a confirmed coffee drinker, but the folks I was staying with in the mountains had Good Earth Sweet and Spicy Tea in their pantry, and I was surprised to find I love it! We can get it at our local Kroger, but this deal on Amazon is a better price per box. (Note there is a decaf version of this with a box that looks almost exactly the same, which could be problematic).
Since I’m writing more, that means my butt is in a chair more, which means my cheap five year old $89 chair just wasn’t cutting it any more. Good office chairs are expensive, but I eventually came to see it as an investment in my business, like a mechanic would her tools. I bought a chair from Crandall Office Furniture in Michigan, which refurbishes used high-quality office chairs and sells them around half-price. It’s still the most I’ve ever spent for a chair, but I feel dramatically better at the end of the day.
Thank you for reading. This newsletter is a reader-supported publication. The best way to support my work is to become a patron, buy me a cup of coffee, or forward this letter to someone else. And if someone did forward this to you, you can get your own subscription here.
Take care,
Hugh
