Jennifer Baez Accepts Tenure-Track Position at the University of Washington

Recent alumna Dr. Jennifer Baez will join the University of Washington faculty in September 2022 as Assistant Professor in Latin American art history in the School of Art and Art History and Design. Jennifer, who earned her PhD in art history this spring, will join the UW faculty in September 2022 as Assistant Professor in Latin American art history.

Art History Students and Faculty Contribute to Latest Issue of Peregrinations, Journal of Medieval Art and Architecture

Four Florida State University Art History graduate students this year had the unique opportunity to contribute to a guest-edited issue of the open-access, peer-reviewed journal Peregrinations, Journal of Medieval Art and Architecture. The 20th Anniversary Special Issue of Peregrinations is a catalog of Ethiopian objects in in the Blick-Harris Study Collection in the Department of Art History at Kenyon College.

Florida State University art historians continue to share their research in academic conferences around the country and online this spring. Here are a few highlights of our scholars' presentations at the conferences of the College Art Association, the Midwestern Art History Society, and the Popular Culture Association.

Doctoral Candidate Rachel Carlisle’s Renaissance Society of America Service and Conference Presentation

Doctoral candidate Rachel Carlisle will participate in the annual meeting of the Renaissance Society of America this spring, presenting her paper “The Portrait Medal in Augsburg during the Era of Print,” with the support of a Kress Travel Grant and a departmental conference award.

Sahara Lyon is Inaugural Recipient of Patricia Rose Fellowship

MA student Sahara Lyon is the first recipient of the Patricia Rose Fund in Art History, a scholarship initiated in 2020 in honor of late professor and longtime Art History department chair Patricia Rose. The Patricia Rose Fund in Art History was created to ensure that Florida State University students can pursue the subjects to which Dr. Rose joyfully devoted her life.

Doctoral Candidate Julia Kershaw Presents Research at Motion: Migrations Conference in São Paulo, Brazil

Doctoral candidate Julia Kershaw presented a paper at the 35th annual CIHA World Congress “Motion: Migrations,” hosted by the Goethe-Institut in São Paulo, Brazil, in January 2022. While in São Paulo, Julia also conducted on-site research for her dissertation on artist Lygia Clark.

FSU Art Historians at the 42nd Annual Byzantine Studies Conference

Dr. Lynn Jones and PhD candidate Sarah Mathiesen presented papers at the 42nd annual Byzantine Studies Conference (BSC), which was held at Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Museum of Art in December, 2021.

BA Alumna Kylie Stracuzzi Joins Museum of Florida History as Education Program Representative

Doctoral Candidate Sarah Mathiesen Participates in Middle Eastern Studies Conference

In December 2021, doctoral candidate Sarah Mathiesen participated in the 2021 annual meeting of the Middle East Studies Association (MESA). Sarah presented a paper based on her dissertation research on the monumental decorative program of Yılanlı Kilise, a rock-cut church located in the Ihlara Valley of Cappadocia, Turkey.

The Grove Museum Celebrates Fifth Anniversary with Grove Day Events Saturday, March 12

The Grove Museum celebrates the fifth anniversary of its opening to the public with Grove Day on Saturday, March 12th, 2022. Art History master's student Sahara Lyon works at The Grove as a Museum Educator, giving tours of the museum to guests, developing material for social media, and facilitating with events and programming such as Grove Day.
