Billie Holiday's Elder in Residence, Elder Dugger gave a Black History presentation at Sankofa Children's Museum of African Cultures. His presentation, "Black History is No Mystery," celebrated and uplifted ancestors and current Black Historical figures. For Dugger, "My story, your story, and our story is the wonderful story. We as Black people, have endured, persevered, strived, and achieved. "
 Billie Holiday Center presents 2022 Helena Hicks Emancipation School
Join the Billie Holiday Center and faculty affiliates starting April 6th, for a timely Black Studies webinar series, designed as a cluster of introductory "mini-courses" on Black culture, and historical and contemporary issues affecting Black freedoms.  Celebrating the Royal Theater 100 years later
James Hamlin, BHCLA community partner and founder of The Royal Theatre Community Heritage Corporation (TRTCHC), hosted a public remembrance outside the Avenue Bakery to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the legendary Royal Theater. Called The Douglass Theatre when it opened on February 15th, 1922, the theater was built, owned and operated by Black business owners. The TRTCHC wants to rebuild the theater, razed in 1971, to restore pride and revitalize the West Baltimore community. Read more about this event here.

Special Feature: Exploring Black Baltimore's Community Murals
Students in BHCLA's "Arts and Social Justice" course explored the cultural history of West Baltimore's Black pride murals with Elder Charles Dugger and Mama Deborah Mason, Director of Sankofa Children's Museum of African Cultures. Capturing the triumphs and struggles of Black peoples from African antiquity to the present, these walls of pride use art and aesthetics to inspire social change.
