We are officially twenty days away from the beginning of spring which means the worst winter months are behind us! Spring always brings a renewed sense of excitement and optimism, but with so much going on in the world right now it takes a little more to stay positive. I don’t know about you, but I’d like to see a boring news day for once!
With so much happening I think that is why I enjoy researching and writing historical true crime stories. It’s a wonderful escape into the past and it's fascinating to revisit people and places from other times. Where Are You Mrs. Dick was our first eight-part podcast, and it was the most historical having taken place in 1946 Hamilton.
It was before the invention of television, so the grizzly crime played out in the headlines and created a newspaper war between the major Toronto newspapers of the time. Everyone wanted the scoop on the beautiful and enigmatic Evelyn Dick.
We’ve covered many other stories and time periods since then and I’m currently working on a 1920’s story involving a Canadian serial killer. Stay tuned!

Phil Hartman was born in Brantford, Ont. and many people will remember him from his eight seasons on Saturday Night Live. He was one of the funniest comedians in Hollywood and had made it big with movie roles, voice work on The Simpsons and his own NBC comedy called News Radio. But while his professional life was flourishing his private life was in turmoil. And while we never know what goes on behind closed doors, what was happening in the Hartman household would have deadly consequences.
Our most recent podcast, Fatal Friendship: The Murder of Nancy Eaton brings us back to Toronto and into the lives of two of the oldest and wealthiest families in Canadian history. Nancy Eaton was the great, great-granddaughter of Timothy Eaton who founded Canada’s largest department store. Her brutal murder in 1985 shocked the country, but the identity of her killer was equally as disturbing. Seventeen-year-old Andrew Leyshon-Hughes was a close friend of Nancy’s and a member of another Canadian family dynasty. But was he ultimately responsible for what he had done? Was he simply bad or completely mad? The answer to that would determine his fate.
