Thought for the Week
Monday, 28th February 2022
We live in a media saturated society – there are many voices:  tv, radio, internet, twitter, facebook, Instagram, Linked-In, email, text, friends, family – whilst none of these mediums are necessarily bad, so much communication can make it difficult to hear the voice of God.   Jesus often withdrew to be alone to communicate with God.   I find walks in the country or by the beach really helpful times.
This week we are entering into the period of Lent, from the Latin Quadragesima meaning 40, when Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness responding to the voice of Satan with words from Scripture.
Lent is often considered to be a time to “give up something” – a time of denial, maybe stop using a form of social media and instead use this time to “withdraw, to reflect and to listen to God”?
“Reflect upon your present blessings of which every man has many — not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”
Charles Dickens
“Self-Reflection is a humbling process. It’s essential to find out why you think, say, and do certain things…. then better yourself.”
