CHOP WOOD, CARRY WATER ACTIVIST TRAINING
………………………………………
Want to get politically involved but don’t know how to start? Here’s a workshop for you!

Activism 101 is a free, one-hour (ish) webinar for folks of varying levels of experience with activism and/or political action. It’s for folks who’ve never helped win *any* election, and for those who merely need a refresher on what actions work best. It’s a survey course with one goal: to give those who are frightened and anxious about the state of our country simple, bite-sized actions they can take to help hold the House, expand the Senate, win a bunch of statewide and down-ballot races, and basically make good things happen in November of 2022 and beyond. It’s offered by Jessica Craven, a mom, veteran activist, elected member of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, and author of daily political action email “Chop Wood, Carry Water.

In the workshop Craven will go over several forms of “entry-level” actions, like postcarding, letter writing, text and friend banking, micro-fundraising, making SMART donations, phonebanking, and canvassing, and address some of the fears that keep us from doing these things. She’ll also explain why each and every person’s actions DO matter. Finally, she’ll give each participant a google doc packed with resources and opportunities to volunteer. The idea is for each participant to leave feeling empowered and clear on at least one small thing they can—and will!—do to help us win in November.

HELP GAIN ANOTHER DEMOCRATIC SENATOR - IN WISCONSIN!!

………………………………………

One of IndivisibleNOCO’s 2022 strategic goals is to “adopt” a state.  Although we will be facing tough races in Colorado, we would like to do our bit to help the national landscape.  We decided to “adopt” Wisconsin when we were presented with an opportunity to work with activists in the state.

Ron Johnson is polling low in Wisconsin and his Senate seat is considered vulnerable. The Democratic Party of Wisconsin (WisDems) analyzed the 2020 election and found that over 98% of people who requested absentee ballots voted.   We can help unseat Ron Johnson by joining WisDems, Milwaukee, WI organization Grassroots Southshore, and Indivisible members in Illinois to make friendly phone calls to Wisconsin Democrats and help them request absentee ballots on their mobile phones or computers for all 2022 elections.

WisDems will provide training (less than an hour on ZOOM) and phone numbers (through an easy computer virtual phone bank with an on-screen script to follow).  You just make calls - on your schedule or during group phone-banking events.

How to help …

Sign up for training and phone-banking sessions.   After the training, you will receive a link to access the phone dialing system.

This easy and impactful effort could generate tens of thousands of votes.  In a swing state like Wisconsin, we could help tip the balance to displace Ron Johnson in the U.S. Senate (and re-elect Governor Tom Evers).

SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE

………………………………………

Like many of you, we have watched in horror as the autocrat, Putin, invaded Ukraine. We want to declare our full solidarity with Ukraine and it's people. As soon as we find concrete actions our members can take, we will pass them on. Until then, we want to express our support for the people of Ukraine and stand by their side in the face of the Russian invasion. And as always, be sure to follow reliable media outlets and be on the lookout for disinformation.

SAVE THE DATE FOR CAUCUSES

………………………………………

Larimer and Weld County Democratic Party caucuses will be on March 5. The Larimer caucuses presently plan to be in-person, starting at 1:00 PM. The Weld caucuses will be virtual, starting at 9:00 AM.

Caucus or Primary?

  • On June 28, Colorado will hold primary elections for each party to determine who will be on the ballot for the November general elections

What happens at a caucus?

  • Each precinct will elect two Precinct Organizers (new name for Precinct Committee People or PCPs).
  • Precincts will also elect delegates to the County Assembly.  Delegates will not be tied to a candidate, as they were in past years.  Rather, the delegates will vote for candidates based on their judgement at the time of the County Assembly (March 19).
  • People can sign up to be election judges or poll watchers.
  • Participants will weigh in on the Democratic state platform.
  • Learn about potential candidates who will stand up at the State Assembly (if they receive 30% of the delegate votes at State Assembly, they can get on the ballot without going through the petition/signature collection process).

Who can attend?

  • Any registered voter who has affiliated with the Democratic Party. Update any changes to your address on your voter registration at the Secretary of State Website:  https://www.sos.state.co.us/voter/pages/pub/home.xhtml
  • 16- or 17-year-olds can participate in caucuses and assemblies, if they are registered as a Democrat.

Caucuses are important because they give YOU a chance to...

  • Meet your fellow Democratic party neighbors
  • Weigh in on the Democratic party platform in Colorado
  • Represent your community - start on a path to becoming a County or State delegate
  • Signal an active electorate

Thank you for all that you do!
