Women and the Post: Achieving gender equality in the postal sector

Great strides are being taken in the postal sector towards achieving gender equality within the workforce, but does more need to be done to accelerate its progress? Although there are no specific figures on the breakdown of women and men who work within the global postal sector, it just takes one look at designated operators’ senior management teams to see that they are still dominated by men. However, the industry has come a long way over the years to gain better gender equality, and the situation differs from country to country.

The International Women's Day edition of the UPU's "Voice Mail Exchanges" series will be organized under the theme:
Just as gender equality forms an integral part of the global sustainable development agenda, it can serve as a powerful accelerator behind postal sustainability. 

Together with women who are leading sustainable transformations in the Post and beyond, we will look into:
  • Why is gender equality important to achieve sustainable development, especially within the postal sector?
  • What are the current trends and situation when it comes to the women’s involvement in the postal and logistics sector, both in terms of numbers and levels?
  • What should be done to advance women’s leadership in the Post and, thus, the sector’s sustainability efforts?
