<<First Name>>

Brighter mornings and longer evenings cast light on how the word 'Lent’ shadows ‘lengthen’. The stretching days may prompt us to greater activity, to engagement and busyness, as we welcome the shortening times of darkness and gladly leave restrictions behind.

Lent gives us a chance to be recreated; this Lent may bring us an opportunity to find new balances between activity that is measured and proper and ways of resting that shed the confinement or resignation of cocooning. God's good spirit wants us not to get lost in our busyness and for us to find new life in our ways of resting.

Coming up...

Oasis Day

Book your place on the March Oasis Day one-day retreat and give yourself a springtime opportunity for prayer and reflection.

A Morning Retreat

A morning's retreat maybe just what you need. Arrive at 10 and leave after lunch on Tuesday 15 March for some quiet, reflection and mass.

Lent 2022

Lent Prayer Evenings create a ‘sacred space’ for you to open your heart to the Word of God, helping you to prepare to celebrate God’s great love for us. You can come for any one evening, or all seven as you wish. No need to book - just come along.

World Poetry Day

Tuesday 22 March is World Water Day and a day after World Poetry Day. To take some time with a selection of poems to bless your journey, join Piaras Jackson online from 7:30 pm.
A series of four evenings will be offered by Manresa's team to help all who seek a synodal pathway. We will draw on the insight of  Ignatius of Loyola, who carefully noted what was most helpful to people seeking God as he made his pilgrim way. Each Zoom meeting will present some essential elements of Ignatian spirituality to refresh and encourage us as we find new ways of being church together.

Manresa has received permission from Dublin City Council to proceed with building and renovation. Although there will be some disruption, we look forward to being able to offer better facilities to retreatants and to improve the conditions for our staff. This work will include:

  • a new single storey, flat-roofed building to provide for new reception, dining rooms and kitchen
  • preservation of the castle - a protected structure - by external and internal attention to roof, walls and windows
  • refurbishment of the current Tertianship to replace the castle as the residence for the Jesuit community
  • replacement of all windows in the Retreat House block and refurbishment of Retreat House rooms
  • provision of car and cycle parking spaces

We hope that work will commence in Summer 2022 and conclude by Autumn 2023.

Retreats in 2022

We are happy to receive bookings for the following residential retreats:

Eight-day Retreats

Four-day Directed Retreat

This newsletter and Manresa's website will keep you informed of other retreat possibilities and let you know how the work proceeds.
As Covid slowly recedes, many have found the benefits in taking time to retreat in their own or in a borrowed private space. We are glad to facilitate you by offering online direction during retreats (the current retreat sees 10 people join us online each day) or by making resources available for use in your own time.

A Heart for the  World

If you are planning your own eight-day retreat in this Ignatian anniversary year, you will value the opportunity to be accompanied – virtually – by Brian O’Leary SJ. In a series of eight videos, Brian presents the Constitutions of the Society of Jesus, drawing inspiration from them and offering cues for prayer and  application to life.

Eight videos of approximately 30 minutes each are presented in easy-to-access sections and are accompanied by notes referring the the Constitutions, Spiritual Exercises and scripture.

Great Faith: Women in the Gospels

Among the recently added online retreats are both Mike Drennan's 6-day retreats - Great Faith I and II. Both are now available for you to use as a retreat@home.

For Peace in Ukraine

Let believers dedicate themselves intensively to prayer and fasting. May the Queen of Peace preserve the world from the madness of war.
Pope Francis

Pope Francis designated Ash Wednesday as a day of prayer and fasting for peace in Ukraine and offers a prayer you may continue to keep in your heart.
