This email provides a preview of what's available in the online monthly CDE Update for superintendents. CDE will continue to release special editions of the CDE Update as needed. Past editions of the CDE Update are available on our website.

Teaching and Learning Conditions Colorado Survey open through March 4

The 2022 TLCC survey of all educators, special service providers, education support professionals and school leaders has been extended through Friday, March 4.

Results will be available at www.TLCCsurvey.org to schools and districts with 50% participation and at least five results this spring. Results will be made available to districts one week before public release.

Accountability, Performance & Support

  • Data for Alternative Education Campuses will be available in Data Pipeline on Wednesday, March 16.
  • The UIP template will roll over on Friday, April 15, from the 2021-22 template to the 2022-23 template.

Assessments  

  • CMAS, PSAT, SAT and CoAlt assessments will be administered across Colorado this spring. 
     
  • A resource toolkit is available to help schools and districts communicate about the spring 2022 state assessments.
     
  • To confirm that all schools have completed spring assessment administration training and ensure that students who test do not have their scores unnecessarily suppressed, the CMAS and CoAlt Verification of District Training form is to be returned to CDE prior to testing with a superintendent signature.
     
  • LEPs are responsible for developing their parent excusal policies but must keep in mind that state statute prohibits imposing, “an unreasonable burden or requirement on a student that would discourage the student from taking a state assessment.” 
     
  • All PSAT and SAT test coordinators, including back-up and services for students with disabilities coordinators, must complete online training by Wednesday, March 23. Proctors and monitors must complete training requirements by Wednesday, April 6. 
     
  • In recognition of ongoing COVID challenges, CDE has expanded access to the CMAS and CoAlt English Language Arts and Math early administration window.

Educator Talent

  • The Mentor Grant Program serves as an opportunity for districts to build, enhance and strengthen mentoring programs. The application deadline is Monday, March 28.
     
  • An Education Workforce Program has been created to ensure LEAs have the capacity to meet the need for recruiting, retaining and supporting the educator workforce. Applications are due Friday, March 25.

ESSA

  • Applications for the direct allocations from the 90% of Elementary & Secondary Schools Emergency Relief III to be distributed to LEAs require final approval by Thursday, March 24.
     
  • Five ESSER funding opportunities are available for school districts through Colorado's ESSER Fund State Reserve. Applications for the Education Workforce Program and the Mentor Program mentioned above in the Educator Talent section are both due in March.

Organizational Effectiveness 

  • The Report Card March collection is open from Tuesday, March 1, through Sunday, April 10.
     
  • The Alternative Education Campus Application/Renewal Collection opens Wednesday, March 16, and closes Friday, April 29. The Planned Measures Collection for the 2022 AEC school performance frameworks has the same window. 
     
  • The expected Student Biographical Review window for WIDA ACCESS for ELLs will be Friday, March 18, until Tuesday, March 29. 
     
  • The HR collection timeline has been extended. All errors in the staff interchange files and snapshot should be resolved by Thursday, March 3. The Educator Shortage Survey must be completed for the snapshot to be error free. The collection and survey will both close Friday, March 11.

Postsecondary Readiness 

  • LEAs interested in applying to the School Counselor Corps Grant Program, which is meant to increase the availability of effective school-based counseling, must notify CDE by Friday, March 4. Applications for the grant program are due Friday, March 18.
     
  • The Career Development Incentive Program provides financial incentives that encourage high school students to complete qualified industry credential programs, internships, residencies, construction pre-apprenticeship or construction apprenticeship programs, or qualified Advanced Placement courses. The intent to participate is open through the submission date of Thursday, June 30.

Standards and Instructional Support
  • The Colorado Computer Science Education Grant Program is open for a second round of applications until Friday, March 11.
     
  • Congratulations to Stephanie Basile and Michelle Dillard, Colorado's latest recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
Preschool through 3rd Grade Office
  • The window for the 2021-22 READ budget submissions and data collection opens on Friday, April 1. The deadline to submit budget information is Thursday, June 30, and the deadline for the data collection information is Friday, July 1.
     
  • The deadline is approaching for K-3 teachers to submit evidence to the COOL system that they completed their evidence-based training in teaching reading. Teachers must complete the training by Aug. 1 and submit their documentation by Aug. 15.
