University of Arizona awarded the 2022 Beckman Scholars Program
The 2022 award will support six exceptional undergraduate students in the chemical and biological sciences to grow as scientists through independent research and mentoring. It will be led by Dr. Daniela Zarnescu, a Molecular and Cellular Biology faculty member, and administered by Ms. Marisa Lester, the UBRP Assistant Program Director. Lisa Rezende wins the 2022 Galileo Circle Copernicus Award
Lisa Rezende is simply amazing. An Associate Professor of Practice in Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB), Dr. Rezende also directs MCB’s Undergraduate Assessment and Integration, MCB’s Online Education, and has recently developed a new undergraduate certificate in MCB. Her accomplishments are extraordinary, so it is no surprise that Dr. Rezende has been awarded the 2022 Galileo Circle Copernicus Award. Read more.
MCB Faculty Publications
Dr. Timothy Bolger and his lab have published a paper in Molecular and Cellular Biology titled “The RNA Helicase Ded1 Regulates Translation and Granule Formation during Multiple Phases of Cellular Stress Responses.” Read the publication.
 
Dr. Solange Duhamel and her co-authors have published a paper in Environmental Microbiology titled “Dissolved organic phosphorus utilization by the marine bacterium Ruegeria pomeroyi DSS‐3 reveals chain length‐dependent polyphosphate degradation.” Read the publication.
 
Drs. Susan Hester and Lisa Elfring have published a paper in Journal of College Science Teaching titled “Using an Instructional Team During Pandemic Remote Teaching Enhanced Student Outcomes in a Large STEM Course.” Read the publication.
 
Dr. Megha Padi and her lab have published a paper in Scientific Reports titled “Molecular drivers of tumor progression in microsatellite stable APC mutation-negative colorectal cancers.” Read the publication.
 
Dr. Daniela Zarnescu and her lab have published a paper in Metabolites titled “TDP-43 Proteinopathy Causes Broad Metabolic Alterations including TCA Cycle Intermediates and Dopamine Levels in Drosophila Models of ALS.” Read the publication.
