A Large Grant Came In

From time to time, we receive emails asking, “How can I help”? Well, there is a new project through which we hope that some of you can assist us as we do our part to improve the lives of thousands of people.

The Center on Business and Poverty has a separate non-profit that it runs, called the Personal Finance Employee Education Fund (PFEEF). PFEEF focuses on assisting people as they take ownership of their financial well-being.

As part of accomplishing this mission, PFEEF just won a $970,000 grant to help deliver proven financial literacy services to individuals. Financial literacy training includes education on a variety of topics: money management during stressful times, debt management, finding and keeping affordable housing, education, and career planning.

The grant will allow PFEEF to teach, through its subcontractor, the Financial Fitness Group, principles about these topics. The training will take place online and be coordinated through financial literacy champions at organizations, giving access to up to 400 online financial empowerment courses, delivering a Financial Fitness SCORE™ to evaluate progress during the courses, and providing detailed reporting to measure the impact of the program.

The campaign will be able to build out community partners, financial champions, and execute on projects that will positively impact more than 5,000 people in areas of Wisconsin, particularly individuals who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID. The PFEEF/Financial Fitness Group approach has proven to help increase savings by up to 40%, as well as improve financial confidence and aptitude.

If you would like to help, please assist us by connecting us to an employer with workers in Wisconsin that wants to help them improve their financial knowledge and skills by contacting John Hoffmire at 608-354-4251 or hoffmire@wisc.edu
