IISC builds links in Cuba
Signs MoUs with two universities and holds talks with Higher Education Minister
The International Institute for the Study of Cuba at the University of Buckingham has signed memoranda of understanding with two universities and held talks with the Cuban Minister of Higher Education about ways the Institute can work more closely with the Cuban sector.
The events took place at the 13th Congress on Higher Education 'Universidad 2022' held in Havana from 11-15th February.
The IISC director, Dr Stephen Wilkinson, attended the Congress as one of 42 foreign delegates. As well as the MoUs, Dr Wilkinson also had very constructive meetings with other institutions of Higher Education including the University of Villa Clara 'Marta Abreu', the Institute of History and the Superior Institute of International Relations.
Visits to all of these will be included in the itinerary of the forthcoming Buckingham University Study Tour to Havana in September.

Weds. 23 February, 2022. 5pm GMT
Prof. William M. LeoGrande.
During the 2020 presidential campaign, Joe Biden criticized Donald Trump’s sanctions and promised to re-engage with Cuba. Once in office, however, Biden did nothing for the first six months. As Biden begins his second year in office, is his Cuba policy being driven by domestic politics or hopes of finally rolling back the Cuban revolution?
William LeoGrande is Professor of Government at American University, Washington D.C. He is a specialist in U.S. policy toward Latin America.
