Dear Running Niche Friends,

We’re Moving!
The move is real. Our plan is to close on Sunday February 27 and Monday 28. We’ll be moving out of 4131 Manchester Avenue and moving into 1601 Tower Grove Avenue. We’ll be open for business on Tuesday March 1 at 10:00 AM. Our move is driven by the need to for more space as our growth has far exceeded our plans, we when opened in May 2018. So here we go! The neighborhood we’re moving to is Botanical Heights, between McRee and Blaine. Some of the highlights are both a front and back entrance and 4 reserved parking spots in the lot behind the store, easily accessible from Tower Grove Avenue. Also, we’ll have easy access to Tower Grove Park for group runs (no crossing of dangerous intersections). We’re close to the Botanical Gardens and great restaurants. Here’s a couple of updated photos of the interior since last month.
Focus On: Team Running Niche
Sometimes when we work with an athlete for the first time, we both learn as we go through the cycle. Andrew Hargis is a great example of this. Once he got through about 4 weeks of aerobic base building it was apparent, he was handling the workload easily. So, we decided to ratchet it up. Here is Andrew’s story.

“The Lydiard training method has completely changed my outlook on preparing for a marathon. I’ve been running marathons since I was 18 years old. I’m now 35 and thought that my best days of distance running were behind me. My previous training involved going out every day, running my race pace and increasing milage. When I would make it to the starting line, I would be exhausted and fighting off injury. As I reached my 30s my body couldn’t take the old way I trained. After a couple failed attempts to start training and a back injury in 2020, I was looking for something different and was introduced to the Lydiard training method in 2021. The experience of my first cycle was incredible. I loved how every workout had a purpose and gave me a new challenge daily. The variation of speeds kept me healthy, allowed for natural recovery, and truly reinvigorated my love for running. I used to dread my Sunday long runs, but under the Lydiard training I embraced them. I also never missed a day of training and that is a testament to how the Lydiard program kept me engaged and healthy. When I made it to the starting line of the Miami Marathon, I was in the best running shape of my life. It was my 15th marathon and the fastest since I was 23 years old. I have no doubt that I could have run a PR if not for the extremely hot weather that day in Miami. Looking forward to starting my next cycle!”

Postscript From Jen and Bob:
Andrew’s goal race was the Miami Marathon. Race day came around with 69 degrees at gun time, getting up to 78 by race end. He ran fairly evenly, only positive splitting by a small amount. Andrew’s finishing time was 2:59:41, which is his 2nd fastest marathon and his 2nd time going sub 3:00.  He placed 29th overall and 9th in the 35-39 age group. We look forward to working with Andrew in his 2nd Lydiard cycle starting now and helping him get that PR, which means he has to go faster than 2:54:49.
GO! STL Partnership
We’re very proud to be a sponsor of the GO! St. Louis Marathon Weekend. While more information will be forthcoming on this, we are in conjunction with GO! St. Louis, hosting two special runs. The first is Saturday March 19 from the store. It will be a group training run, distance yet to be determined held at 8:30 AM. The second event is a “shake out” run the day before the GO! Half and Full Marathon, Saturday April 2. This will be hosted by Running Niche and Spewak Training. We’ll have a big course map up, (10K, Half and Full) for review and will take a tour of Tower Grove Park. Running Niche will open at 8:00 AM, the run begins at 8:30. More details on both these events will be forthcoming on our social media. For info on the GO! Marathon Weekend click here: GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend (runsignup.com)
Group Runs
Wednesday evening group social runs are held at 6:30 PM each Wednesday.

Our first group run from the new store will be Wednesday March 2 at 6:30 PM. While we haven’t figured out the loop yet, rest assured it will go through Tower Grove Park. We’ll post more info on our social media as we get closer.
Parking
There are 5 metered (the kind that takes quarters!) in front of the store. But we also have 4 reserved spots in the parking lot behind the store, accessible from Tower Grove.
Shop Us Online
Our site is now more populated with the products we have in-store or that we have access directly from the brands. This gives you another option to research what we have prior to coming into the store. We’re happy to help you find whatever you are looking. One last note, we have access to Hoka’s other than what is showing on our website so call the store if you are interested in a style that you aren’t seeing. The address is: www.runningniche.com/shop

Jennifer and I look forward to seeing you when you stop by the new shop. We are always happy and interested in talking about your running/walking and training.
