Incredible Weekend for Team Blyth
NECAA Indoor Champs

Video Review

Gateshead College's fantastic indoor track and field facility greeted our athletes this weekend as the NECAA Indoor Championships provided a platform for our athletes to shine. Saturday was field event day -  and what a day it was! Our U15 girls were in supreme form. In the shot put, our Team Blyth girls locked out the first 5 places, with Hannah securing gold with a new PB, with silver for Senna and bronze for Sadie. It was a similar story in the long jump, with Sadie securing an exciting gold just ahead of Emily and Hannah. In the high jump, it was Senna's turn at the top. A new PB of 1.51m gave her gold on countback ahead of Emily, with Hannah 3rd. Luke was equally dominant in the U15 boys events, taking gold in the shot put with a new club record, with further victories in the long jump and high jump. Alfie leaped to a new club record to take U20 pole vault gold, also taking 1st place in the long jump. Oscar secured an excellent bronze in the long jump with a new PB, whilst Millie Train took 4th place in the U17 long jump with a new PB of 4.72m. Florence secured an excellent U20 high jump silver with a best of 1.51m.

It was all about the track on Sunday. The U15 girls race was once again all about Blyth, with Hannah smashing the club record with 9.48s, ahead of Sadie and Emily who both set PB's in the heat. Luke took his 4th gold of the in the U15 boys hurdles, with Millie progressing to the final where she finished just 0.05s out of the medals in a highly competitive race. Alfie and Luke produced gold medal runs in their hurdles events, before attention turned to the 60m sprint. Amara made her championship debut and was superb, whilst Oscar was just outside his PB. Luke was engaged in his closest battle of the weekend, and had to settle for silver despite setting a new club record of 7.56s. Alfie Ward won his "B" final, having ran a huge PB of 7.29s in the heat. The U15 girls final was once again dominated by Team Blyth. Millie Wilkinson capped a superb winter season with gold in 8.06s, with Sadie 2nd in a new PB of 8.35s, and Senna agonizingly outside the medals in 4th. Hollie-Anne and Abi both recorded new PB's as they progressed to the 60m ''B" final.

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
