Keys to Mission and Discipleship

Wow, what a feast we had at the Coventry CoP last week. Livestream input and interview from Patrick Dixon from his boat in the Caribbean, Amazing insights from John McGinley and the Anglican dream to plant 10,000 new churches in the next 10 years, and helpful sights from Christie Lothamer on what really is church. My two big takeaways from it were

  • It’s time to call the small thing ‘church’, and give people the freedom and support to plant new expressions of church
  • Hospitality, the key to both mission and discipleship.

With about 100 people from about 25 churches, it was a rich time of reconnection in the Kx family as well as a feast of input. The social in the pub with quizmaster Bruce Watson was also one of the highlights for me. Who knew one voice could carry so far over so long!

We are looking forward to hearing the stories from across the network of how the microplanting / microchurches / house churches vision is working out. Please do send us your updates or any signs of the early shoots of encouragement (Spring is on the way!)

 In the Words of Sarah..

When the Kairos teams from across the country gathered to be encouraged and inspired to grow and advance God's Kingdom in their communities, this is the experience of Sarah Caton from Bicester Journey Communities:

"Our team has been to several COPs, and we've always appreciated the effort KX puts into bringing relevant topics we can digest and wrestle with.  It's so helpful to have the time together as a team - to start by taking in information, but then being given time to consider how it relates to our context and even make a plan for forward movement in a few areas.  We always know we will leave with something.  I also personally love the time we spend in worship and looking UP - it truly feels like missionary disciples coming away from the battlefield and resting together in the Lord, and I so value that comradery.  Thank you for all you do to make these events happen."

Confident  Witness -  Rosie at Work

Rosie is a care worker in Kenilworth who knows how to be a confident witness in her workplace. She has a passion to care for those suffering with dementia, but her caring does not stop with her clients. She cares for those with whom she works and wants to be able to share her love of Jesus with them.
When she first started at her new job, she very quickly found that she had to put her ‘colours to the mast’ about her faith. The amount of swearing amongst the staff was something with which she struggled and found herself telling them that she found it offensive and why. As time went on and relationships grew, she realised that none of them swore anymore in her company, and they treated her with love and respect. The atmosphere changed and she is now able to work alongside them with confidence that they know who she is and who she follows.

The UK and Commonwealth will celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a 4-day Bank Holiday from 2-5 June 2022. Churches are in an ideal place to bring communities together for these national celebrations, which end on Pentecost Sunday.
Our Faithful Queen - a gift book using rarely-seen prayers the Queen prayed as she prepared for the Coronation, will be published by HOPE Together and Biblica in March 2022 to buy and give away. Consider ordering some for your church to use to share with people in your community.

Here are some ways you can prepare for the celebrations:
  • Visit www.theplatinumjubilee.com to start making your Platinum Jubilee plans
  • Invite local choirs to learn the new anthem ‘Rise Up and Serve’
  • Involve churches, schools and community groups in 70 Acts of Service
  • Invite local schools, youth groups and uniformed organisations to use the resources for young people On Her Majesty’s Service
  • Download the free Street Party Planner and bring together local groups to organise local celebrations
  • Order copies of Our Faithful Queen and The Girl Who Grew Up To Be Queen to give away during the year to mark the Queen’s 70 years of faith and service
