COVID-19 Update

As of Monday, February 7, NSIV will be returning to the COVID policies in place before January 2022.

Face Coverings are required for:

o Non-vaccinated individuals

o Vaccinated and boosted individuals, or individuals who have had COVID in the past 90 days, all of whom are monitoring for symptoms after an exposure and who are not required to stay at home

o Any one working with COVID in NSIV labs.

Face Coverings are optional for everyone else.

Electronic sign-in will not be required.

NSIV Staff will return to its normal schedule

Visitors are allowed, but they must sign in.

NSIV New Members

BioLumic UV technology delivers ultra-violet light to seeds and seedlings to trigger biological mechanisms that increase plant growth, vigour, and yields. BioLumic LTD plans to establish a science function to provide US-based diagnostic marker processing and development in multiple crop targets, in addition to an operational hub for expanding commercial demand for Cannabis Light Recipe deployments. This next phase will see continuing expansion of BioLumic’s platform technology for yield, compositional, and crop protection gains in major row crops and controlled environment crops.

TurtleTree uses modern cell-based technology to create sustainable food products that are better for the planet, better for the animals, and better for human consumption. The Signapore start-up expects to launch its first products in the U.S. soon using its cell-based dairy ingredients through multiple B2B partnerships and fully commercialize its cultured milk within the next four to five years.

Keeping Up with NSIV

Genomic Expression has developed a RNA platform for next-generation cures called OneRNA®. By analyzing RNA they can detect disease, monitor health and design next-generation cures. During the pandemic they validated their own COVID-19 PCR test securing supply chain and filed a FDA EUA. They entered into a collaboration with Yale enabling COVID-19 in a self-collected saliva sample making testing easier and faster. This was followed by another invention that enabled massive scaling of testing using sequencing instead of PCR which landed them in the semifinals of the XPRIZE.

Since May of 2020, they have processed over 10,000 tests. They have also employed seven interns sponsored by the MA Life Science Center. Recently, they have purchased two new pieces of equipment, https://wcm.formulatrix.com/product-category/lh-mantis/ and https://www.integra-biosciences.com/united-states/en/electronic-pipettes/mini96, to expand throughput.

Today they provide effective COVID-19 testing for schools, corporations, MA Taskforce/FEMA and local towns as well as several touring rock bands.

Keeping Up With NSIV Graduates

Nth Cycle

raised $12.5 million in Series A financing to help it deploy its environmentally friendly critical minerals recovery technology commercially. The funding was co-led by the investment arm of Frankstahl, one of the largest privately held steel distribution companies in Europe, and VoLo Earth, a Colorado-based venture firm focused on climate solutions. Nth Cycle developed a process called electro-extraction to recover critical minerals such as cobalt and nickel using electricity and carbon filters.
