It's time for early sowings
We're tucking our first seeds into soil as we kick off the growing season
Late February is when we start sowing our earliest crops in the greenhouse, with the goal to plant many of them out in the field by late March / early April. We start with peas and onions, and leafy greens like spinach, mustard and lettuce. Quick root crops like radishes and turnips may also be sown now (or soon!) in many places. Eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes are up next, in just a few weeks.
Here on our farm in Oregon, we had an extended dry spell that enabled us to prep soil for early spring crops. But we held off on planting anything in spite of the spring-like weather. Later this week our low temperature is forecast to be colder than we've seen in several years (15˚F!). We've done what we can to protect our overwintering crops, and harvested what we could, including the last of the winter carrots (pictured below). We're looking forward to seeing how our remaining crops fare from this "selection event."
We're happy to report that we made it through the early rush of seed orders without having to pause accepting orders on website. We've made good progress with order fulfillment and are now shipping orders within 5-10 business days. We expect order fulfillment times to shorten further in the coming days. If you need your order rushed, please let us know via email and we will do our best to accommodate.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for joining us on our journey as we continue our work of Bringing Biodiversity Back!
