YOU'RE INVITED BLACK NOSTALGIA IN THE YEAR OF THE TIGER

Come celebrate Black History Month and the Lunar New Year with NAAAP DC at Cool Kids Vinyl on Monday, February 28 at 7:30 PM!

Matt Talley, owner of Cool Kids Vinyl, will share the lasting impact of Black nostalgia to pop culture; explore Washington, D.C.’s influence to that nostalgia via it’s moniker “Chocolate City”, and the history of the H Street NE Corridor.
We will also have a discussion exploring the complexity, and intersection of the Black and Asian experience in America. Topics will range from nostalgic pop culture moments, appreciation vs. appropriation of culture, festishization, race relations, the social justice movement, and unity of community in the spaces we share.

Enjoy a 4 course meal and drinks (beer & wine) by Maketto all while digging through the curated crates of nostalgic records, tapes, toys, and more at Cool Kids Vinyl.

To ensure safety, only fully vaccinated individuals will be allowed to participate. Proof of vaccination and a photo ID will be required at the door. Masks must be worn at all times unless actively eating or drinking. If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness, we kindly ask that you please stay at home and participate in our next in-person event.

A DAY AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE

LAST CHANCE! NAAAP DC is commemorating Black History Month with A Day at the Museum via a visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. We have just a few passes reserved that will be given out on a first come first serve basis. To ensure safety, we ask that all those attending be vaccinated and wear a face covering at all times.

The purpose of the visit is to learn from the injustices and inequities of the past that led to the Civil Rights Movement and the passing of the Voter Rights Act of 1965. Our goal is to learn from the lessons of the past and lead as advocates in the protection of voter rights this year and beyond.
