In this edition I am very pleased to share with you that the Town recently adopted a Local Planning Strategy (LPS). This strategy, which has been years in the making, will provide a blueprint for the growth and development of neighbourhoods and commercial (activity) centres in the Town over the next 10 to 15 years.
The adoption of this Local Planning Strategy is a significant achievement for the Town and I would like to congratulate each and every individual involved for their foresight, hard work and commitment.
Here in the Town of East Fremantle we are an inclusive community balancing growth, lifestyle and sustainability. We thank you, the residents, for making it a great place to live!
Please feel free to share this e-Newsletter with your family and friends.
Best wishes

125th Anniversary
Did you know?
The Municipality of East Fremantle was created in 1897, when it separated from the greater Fremantle area. This means 2022 marks the Town's 125th Anniversary and with a rich history we are very proud to celebrate this milestone.
The Town has adopted a Local Planning Strategy (LPS) to provide a blueprint for the growth and development of neighbourhoods and commercial (activity) centres over the next 10 to 15 years. It will also inform the preparation of a new Local Planning Scheme.
Thank you to everyone who recently participated in an online survey to collect thoughts on the Town's existing main commercial areas (Town Centre, Petra Street, Mixed Use Canning Highway and George Street).
After a needs analysis and strategy has been drafted, the Town will be hosting community sessions to seek comments from commercial landowners, business operators and residents alike.
If you are a commercial landowner, business operator or resident, you can register your interest to attend these community sessions.
The Town of East Fremantle's Climate Action Reference Group (CARG) is leading the way with action on climate change. Having recently completed the draft Climate Emergency Strategy 2022-2032, the Town hosted a CARG Climate Action Seminar for the CARG members, elected members and Town staff.
Professor Bill Hare and Anna Chapman delivered an informative global overview of climate change from an Australian perspective. Professor Peter Newman AO talked about climate change from a Western Australian perspective with local solutions and provided specific examples of Net Zero projects that are gaining momentum and Katie Biggs provided methods to support and mobilise local communities to take action on Climate Change.
The Climate Emergency Strategy 2022-2032 will be presented to Council in March.
A reminder about Water Corporation's 'Pipes for Perth' project - renewing aged water pipes to improve the security and reliability of the water supply for decades to come. Work in East Fremantle will be completed in a staged approach throughout 2022.
A friendly reminder regarding parking. Please do not stop a vehicle;
on a length of carriageway, or in an area, to which a 'no stopping' sign applies

Short-term Accommodation Registration Scheme
The State government is investigating the implementation of a new state-wide registration system for short-term rental accommodation. Under the proposed registration system, providers of short-term rental accommodation within WA would be required to register their property to operate and advertise, including online booking platforms.
