Schooling the System Roundtable Event Next Week

Everyone is invited to attend the Schooling the System Roundtable virtual event Monday, February 28, featuring faculty and student panelists to celebrate the launch of the book Schooling the System: A History of Black Women Teachers by Professor Funké Aladejebi of the Department of History. The roundtable will bring together speakers who take up aspects of Professor Aladejebi's book that they see as critically important, bringing their different disciplinary perspectives to the conversation. Registration is required.

A&S Digital Learning Consultations

Members of the Arts & Science community are invited to attend a Digital Learning Strategy Hive and share insights and ideas for what we should prioritize in our digital learning now and for the long term. These consultation sessions are an important next step in the Faculty’s efforts to continue to improve and enhance digital learning supports and resources for everyone in our community. Academic Searches

Reminder: Arts & Science Internship Program

The deadline for Faculty of Arts & Science academic units to submit an Expression of Interest to join the second cohort of the Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) is February 28, 2022. The second cohort of programs will launch in Fall 2023. Contact: Vicki Lowes, Director, Experiential Learning & Outreach Support.

Spring 2022 Nominations and Elections for 2022–23 Arts & Science Council

Spring elections will be held in March 2022 for elected positions on the Arts & Science Council and Standing Committees. Nominations for these elections will be open from February 28 to March 11 for elected positions for undergraduate students, graduate students, administrative and technical staff, and teaching staff members of Council.

Climate Positive Energy & Climate Positive Campus Funding

The Climate Positive Energy research initiative is partnering with U of T’s Climate Positive Campus to support research that assists U of T in reaching its net-negative 2050 campus goals. Funding up to $100,000 over two years is intended to support research projects that have the potential to be piloted at U of T within five years. Submit applications to: info@cpe.utoronto.ca.

Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The University of Toronto Provost's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program provides funding to increase opportunities for hiring postdoctoral fellows from underrepresented groups, specifically Indigenous and Black researchers. These fellowships will enable postdoctoral researchers to grow their scholarly profiles, undertake academic work at the University of Toronto and strengthen the research environment at the University with diverse perspectives.

Call for Applications: University of Toronto Excellence Awards

The University of Toronto Excellence Award (UTEA) program provides undergraduate students from both the Natural Sciences & Engineering (NSE) and the Social Sciences & Humanities (SSH) with funding to conduct summer research projects under the supervision of U of T faculty members. UTEA submissions are to be prepared and submitted by faculty members. Both the UTEA-SSH and UTEA-NSE are valued at a minimum of $7,500. $5,250 is provided by the University and must be matched by a minimum of $2,250 from the student’s supervisor or the academic unit. Any supplement above this level may be set at the supervisor’s or department’s discretion.

Research Partnership Opportunities

  • Important Update to NSERC Alliance Option 2 Grants: As of February 18, 2022, Alliance Option 2 has been simplified to 100 per cent from NSERC for proposals involving partners from any sector (private, public or not-for-profit). The requirement for private sector partner organizations to commit 10 per cent of the project’s cash budget has been removed. Questions: alliance@nserc-crsng.gc.ca.
  • XSeed Interdivisional Research Funding Program 2022–24: Funding is available for four new partnerships between Arts & Science and Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering ($60,000/year for two years, starting September 2022).  Application deadline: March 7, 2022, 12 pm. A&S contact: Glaucia Lima.
  • Community Partnership Research Program: Funding to help create new collaborative research partnerships, or nurture early-stage partnerships, between the University and community partners. Research funding of up to $50,000/year for up to two years. Deadline for Notice of Intent: March 15, 2022 (submit to connaught.secretariat@utoronto.ca). Application deadline: May 2, 2022 (submit via MRA).
  • Mitacs Accelerate: A new curated list of Mitacs Accelerate Open Projects for A&S faculty members is now available. Visit the Mitacs website for a full list of Open Projects. A&S contact: Glaucia Lima.
