SoTL Fellows Program

Do you have questions about your teaching and student learning and/or student success that you would like to further explore? Consider conducting a Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) project!

The 
SoTL Fellows Program provides you with the opportunity to 1) develop and carry out a scholarly project that systematically investigates teaching and student learning and outcomes, 2) receive support through a faculty learning community, and 3) establish collegial connections across disciplines.

SoTL Fellows will receive a $1,000 stipend after the successful completion of the multi-semester program (March 2022-May 2023).

Rice Library Lunch & Learn Workshops

Tuesday, March 1 at noon: Open Access Publishing
Explore Open Access Publishing and learn about terms such as APC (Article Process Charge) and predatory journals and how the Rice library can help you navigate open access publishing with Scholarly Communication Librarian Peter Whiting. Zoom link to join the session.

Tuesday, March 22 at noon: Resources in Scholarly Communication
Explore together the resources in Scholarly Communication at Rice library including SOAR, Open Access Funding and copyright with Scholarly Communication Librarian, Peter Whiting. Zoom link to join the session.

Thursday, March 24 at noon: Primary sources in the USI Archives
Primary sources, UASC research guide and University Archives with Rice library University Archivist Jennifer Greene. Zoom link to join this session.

Open Educational Resource (OER) Workshops

Wednesday, March 16, 2-3:30 pm, Zoom
Thursday, March 17, 10-11:30 am, Zoom

The David L. Rice Library, Online Learning, and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning are collaborating to offer two virtual Open Educational Resource (OER) Workshops. These workshops are open to faculty and staff serving in a teaching capacity at USI and will cover the following topics:

  • OER and student outcomes
  • Open licensing: what it is and how it affects academic freedom
  • Finding and evaluating OER
  • Integrating OER into courses or programs
  • How the USI OER Team can support your long-term efforts 

If these topics sound interesting, please register to attend a workshop!
Note that this registration form also includes an opportunity to apply for a $250 stipend to review an existing OER textbook.

Upcoming Virtual Teaching Conferences

IUPUI's E.C. Moore Symposium on Excellence in Teaching 
Friday, March 4 from 9 am - 2:30 pm, virtual

The Symposium brings together stakeholders in the higher education community across Indiana to examine teaching excellence and innovative pedagogies that encourage student learning. The keynote speaker is Dr. Mays Imad from Pima Community College, who will be speaking about trauma-informed pedagogy and pedagogy of care.

Workshop on Trauma-Informed Pedagogy
Dr. Mays Imad will offer a virtual follow-up workshop on A Deeper Dive into Trauma-Informed Teaching on Monday, March 7, 1-2:15 pm where you can engage deeply through a case-study analysis, individual reflections, and small-group discussions and leave with actionable strategies to use in your teaching contexts. Learn more and register for the virtual workshop.
