Pink Shirt Day 2022: Stand up to bullying
Kids lift each other up on Pink Shirt Day 2022

At Children First Canada, we're proud to celebrate Pink Shirt Day 2022 and promote anti-bullying efforts across the country. Every child has the right to be protected from being hurt and mistreated, in body or mind. Yet children and youth are often bullied for identifying as 2SLGBTQ+, their race or ethnicity, newcomer status, disability, religion and Indigenous identity.

Pink Shirt Day aims to promote awareness about bullying and encourages kids and adults alike to take a stand against it. Today, kids across the country will wear pink at school and at home to show their support and celebrate the theme of "Lift Each Other Up."

Did you know?
Over the last few years, bullying has remained among the top 10 threats to childhood in our annual
Raising Canada report.

Here are some findings from
Raising Canada 2021:

  • In Canada, 20% of young people reported being frequently bullied, ranking Canada at 23rd out of 38 countries in relation to bullying impacts.

  • Among reported cases of student bullying, only one-third of cases result in a resolution.

  • In a survey conducted by Plan International Canada, girls and young women disclosed information about their cyberbullying experiences. Six in 10 girls had faced harassment or abuse online.
